All images open as black and white?

Hi all. New to the forum.
I have recently been experiencing a problem with LR. When I import images to process, they all open up straight away as black and white :evil:. And even if I select all and hit the colour button they still stay as B and W. is a real pain when I am processing several hundred wedding images and I have to keep making each image colour before I make adjustments. Can anyone tell me why this is? is it in the preferences or setup that is wrong. Thanks for any comments in advance. { glad I found this forum by the way

Check the Import dialog, are you applying a Develop preset by chance?
