After importing profiles, they don’t show up. What am I doing wrong?

I made a whole lot of profiles to use with IR photography. I intend to use them on my iPad, where I do all my editing.

I made them with CamerRAW on a Windows 10 PC. After waiting and restarting all the apps (LR on PC, on iPad and Camera RAW and even restarting my PC) the profiles never showed up on my iPad.

Then I went into CameraRAW where they still exist since I made them there, and I exported them. Then I tried to import them in Lightroom (non-classic) on the PC. The little loading bar appeared for a second and I got no warnings or anything. But the profiles didn’t show up.

I checked if they were hidden or if they were under a different existing category instead of a new one, but could not find them.

How do I get the profiles over to Lightroom on my iPad? Or even into Lightroom (non-classic) on my PC?

It’s so confusing. And it’s insane that Adobe doesn’t just give us a button to import profiles with on the iPad version of Lightroom. Not to mention a way to delete them too. Basic profile management is something they only managed for the PC versions for some reason. I can’t make sense of their design decisions.

You were right about the Adobe support team being clueless. After the first support session, the person escalated the case to the “senior support team”. Someone from that team gained access to my PC and guess what they did, all the same things I’ve been trying and the support person before them tried.

At the end they asked for a copy of the profiles and I gave it + a RAW file from the camera. They’re supposed to get back to me soon.

After that session I decided to format my hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows. Guess if that worked or not… it did not. Lightroom still shows the loading bar and confirmation message when I try to import the profiles, but they never show up!

This is so frustrating! Especially since you confirmed that the profiles work just fine. You imported them on your end, right?

Adobe support works from a script. (If A then B else C) If you throw something at them that is not in the script they are clueless.

Johan is using MacOS successfully, Perhaps it is WindowsOS or Windows Permissions that is the problem. I think it would help if there was a Windows Guru that could take a look at your problem.

Yeah that’s an interesting point. If you or anyone else here uses Windows and are also using Lightroom (non-classic), are you willing to receive a copy of the profiles and attempt to import them? It would be nice to know if it works for others.

I am on Windows 10 Pro, so another Windows 10 user trying this would be very useful. But I’ll take a Windows 11 user too. ;P

EDIT: For any Windows users that are willing to test this, here is a link to a folder on my Google Drive. In it is a zip file with all the profiles. It should be possible to import the profiles by just selecting the zip file when you’re in the import menu and stuff. Doing that should make LR show a loading bar and then there should be a new category of profiles named Kolari Vision.

I’ve also included two versions of the same RAW file in that folder. One is straight from the camera (RAF) and the other is a DNG version. The profiles should work only with files form the same camera as that photo was shot with (Fuji X-T2).

And keep in mind that these are profiles, not presets. The Adobe support people kept looking in the presets tab to see if the profiles where there. Like do these people even use Lightroom? (Obviously not, what with the script and everything.)

I tried another thing today, which was to open Camera RAW and moving all the profiles from their original category to a new one, then export them from that one and then trying to import the zip file. It didn’t work. Loading bar, confirmation message, then nothing.

Oh and I also bought some profiles today and they imported just fine.
That means there is an issue with the profiles you created, even though that issue does not create a problem on my Mac. Calling people here using Windows!

Yeah I kind of agree. I’m not sure it’s the profiles themselves, since they worked on your PC. But maybe it’s something in the background that keeps track of/indexes the profiles and it’s messing up somehow.

I don’t remember if I mentioned this, but this is the second time I make theses profiles. They’re for infrared photos. They’re made with LUTs from Kolari Vision. The first time I did it, I didn’t do it right because I was supposed to have used a channel swapped LUT (or something) during the creation of the profiles.

This time I did use it though. That’s the biggest difference I think.

I might just try one more time and give them different names to see if that matters. Though I’m pretty sure the names were different between the two sets of profiles.

And yes, if anyone with a Windows PC is willing to download the profiles and confirm if they work or not, I’d be grateful! They’re linked further up. ^^^

I’m on Windows 10, so for all I know Windows 11 won’t behave the same way, but checking on W11 is better than nothing.

Wait, could it matter that the profiles are made with the same LUTs? To be clear, I’ve deleted the first batch of profiles by now.
I don’t see how. The LUT is stored as a table inside the profile. If you delete the profile, you delete the LUT.

I’m not sure it’s the profiles themselves, since they worked on your PC.
On my Mac, not on my PC. That is why I wonder if there is something wrong with these profiles that causes your problem on a Windows (10) PC, but not on a Mac. Something like that is definitely not impossible.

I do not create my own profiles , so not entirely familiar with the steps involved.. but I am a Windows user.. I am happy to attempt to do so, to see if any light can be shed on this issue, but it will be at least the weekend before I can attempt such a task.

Hopefully this issue might be resolved before then.

Thanks! I’m grateful for that! You have “non-classic Lightroom” installed?

Good point and slipped my mind… was focusing on the Windows bit. Sadly, I do not use any of the Cloud Apps… so not much use.

But I will try creating a profile over the week end and check if my experience overlaps anything posted so far.

Okay that’s alright.

Actually, I just fired up Classic for the first time since I reinstalled Windows 10 and when I tried to import the profiles, I got an error message saying they’re already imported. But I can’t see them anywhere.

I tried the same thing with the profiles I bought, and those imported just fine. Showed up like they should.

Something somewhere in “the system” seem to think the profiles are already available even though they’re not accessible at all. Is there a folder on the PC where the profiles would be after importing them?

I assume not since it sounds like they’re in the cloud (talking about the non classic version now). So somewhere in the cloud there might be a folder with the profiles or an index with false information. (Obviously I’m not a tech person and I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m just trying to make sense of this stuff.)

Edit: you can still download the profiles I’ve provided if you don’t wanna bother making your own. And it’s those files that are in question here too. But I also understand if you think that’s risky.

I only have experience of profiles such as paper profiles. To install these profiles on a windows machine.. right click and you are given the option to install profile. I cannot remember for sure, but recall that by double clicking on a profile it also installs.

So try either of these approaches.

Those are icc-profiles. This is about the Adobe camera profiles, the ones you select at the top of the develop panel.

As Johan said, those are different profiles.

And unless I’m wrong, I’m pretty certain I’m doing it correctly. When importing the profiles into LR I press the right buttons and the loading bar and confirmation message appears. It’s just that the profiles themselves do not appear within LR.\

For anyone else with a Windows PC that are willing to try to import the profiles, just to see if they work correctly for others, the link to my Google Drive is here
. It contains. zip file with all 54 profiles and two versions of the same RAW file (one is the original file from the camera, another is a DNG version. Both are probably not needed, but they’re there.): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1z3S8PzMyH39nX0Xh_whr7LW600xnJ4Dc?usp=share_link

I finally figured it out and I’ll try to explain everything, just in case anyone else could benefit from this. I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed or annoyed, but I’m feeling mostly annoyed.

What I was trying to do was to create some profiles for a full spectrum converted camera. I’ve tried before without understanding exactly what I was doing. Part of that was to download some specific .DCP profiles that someone else has already made. (I’ll post a link if anyone wants it.) This was a year ago. At some point I deleted those .DCP profiles from Lightroom.

Recently I got some LUTS from Kolari Vision and I wanted to make profiles with them. I did two attempts at this and the second one is where I had issues that led to me making this thread. During the first attempt I didn’t use any camera specific .DCP profiles, I just used the standard Adobe Color profile. (Or maybe it was The Neutral one.) The results weren’t as nice as I expected, so I deleted the profiles I had made from Lightroom and remade them in Camera RAW. (The first batch was also made in Camera RAW btw.)

So when I made the second batch, I used a .DCP profile. Then I tried to import those new profiles and that’s when the trouble started. They would not show up. LR said they had loaded just fine, but they never appeared. Read this thread to see all I tried to make them appear.

Then today I thought I would try to make all the profiles for a third time. But before I did that I tried to import the .DCP profiles into Lightroom. Didn’t have much reason too, I just did it. And all of a sudden, the previous profiles appeared! I don’t know why, but they did.

I mean, it seems like the .DCP profiles needed to be present, but I have no idea where I was supposed to have picked up on this clue. (I do have trouble reading lots of text and taking in information, so maybe it was made clear at some point in Kolari Vision’s tutorials or something. The thing res been so much back and forth and links to different tutorials and programs and crap. My mind isn’t capable of taking in all that info and it certainly isn’t able to organize it. So I skim through text and look at screenshots to see if I can make sense of things.

ANYWAY, the profiles are now in LR. Finally.

Thank you very much for the help and patience @Johan Elzenga You spent more time on this that I ever expected you too.
I am a bit confused though. You said you imported one(?) of the profiles just fine on your machine, right? Isn’t it weird how that worked for you even though you didn’t have the .DCP file?

(And sorry for any bad English on my part btw. It’s not my native language, so sometimes I struggle. Especially with syntax.)

You’re welcome and good you finally solved it. It’s indeed strange that the one profile I tested did not show the same problem on my computer. I obviously also do not have that old .dcp profile installed, so you would expect your profile not to show on my computer either.

Unless I do have it… I don’t do IR photography, but I helped a friend that does a few times. She uses the same Rob Shea profiles, so maybe I do have an old profile of him hanging around. It would not show for images of my own cameras, so that’s why I may not even know I have one of his profiles in my cloud…

Does your friend also use a Fujifilm X-T2?

I’ve already deleted the profiles and the RAW files from my Google Drive, but if you still have that raw file and you want to see if you have those .dcp profiles, then this is where they appeared in Lightroom for me. (Ignore the third one, that’s one I made.)

Anyway, I probably won’t be back here anymore now that my issue is solved. I made this account because it seemed like maybe I could get help here.

So long, for now at least.
