Advance color correction

Hi,

I have some pictures that needs some advanced colour corrections. The shadows are very blue/magenta, and the highlights are too yellow.

In photoshop I could easily have fixed this with levels/curves by adjusting the endpoints on each channel, but I cant figure out a good way to do this in LR.

The photos is some scanned negatives and dias.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi perottol! Welcome to the forums. When you get a chance please fill in your signature using the USER CP link above.

After white balancing the two panels you should look at are HSL/Color/Grayscale and Camera Calibration. You can target various colors and adjust hue and saturation.

You could also target specific areas of the image with the adjustment brush. By adjusting saturation and perhaps applying a color you could get where you want.

Keep in mind, though, that there are times that you just have to go to Photoshop. LR is not a replacement for PS but one of the tools at your disposal.

You may also want to look at the Split Toning for the type of issue you describe.

I'm with Gene on this one - some things are just easier in PS, particularly as you already know how. Lightroom's designed primarily for digital capture, which has very different properties to scans.

I would also suggest that the toning maybe due to the settings on the scanner when scanning.

Is your monitor calibrated ? Have you calibrated your scanner ? I would look at what can be done at the source if you have a lot of scans to do. It will save you a lot of time in the long run. Most scanners I've seen have a whole bunch of settings for correcting this type of thing.

The photos are already scanned I'm afraid. I tried split-toning, but this was just not right for this job.

I think I have to do the job in PS, and found that "Auto levels" was a good starting point.
