Can I use my free 20 GB of Adobe cloud storage to store my LRC catalog backups ?

Yes, though it has the same issues as Dropbox if you use the catalogue on more than one computer

Thanks, JB. I guess by "same issues" you mean making sure that LRC has completely finished saving the backup before you log off ?
(I use an external portable SSD anyway to move between one device and another, so the cloud storage was really just intended as an additional offsite backup).

Exactly, and I think the Adobe Cloud will be fine as you are aware of that requirement.

Of course, a catalogue's various preview folders can be much bigger than the catalogue and would eat into the 20gb, as would any photos shot on your phone or imported directly into LrMobile.

You can use your plan cloud storage for any type of file. If you choose that as your backup location Lightroom Classic will create a zipped backup file type and store it in a timestamp named folder. This should prevent you from using the backup file accidentally or on another computer.

FWIW, as a test I have successfully located and used the master catalog file in the 20GB storage area in the local folder named "Creative Cloud Files". The only drawback to locating the master catalog in this folder is also needing to locate the larger Previews and Smart Previews folders inside this same folder. If you choose to locate and run Lightroom Classic out of the local "Creative Cloud Files" folder, you can run Lightroom Classic on any number of computers (less than 3) using the same shared catalog . To do this, (borrowing from the famous line from Jaws) “You're gonna need a bigger boat.”
