Adjustment Brush Marker

There is a grey marker that appears when I click anywhere on the picture. The marker stays in that place. Is that marker soley to identify to LR where i intend to use the brush on?

Say I would like to use the brush to smooth the skin. I click the mouse on the face and the marker is placed. I smooth the skin but now I need to smooth the spot where the marker is. What do I do?

Pat you can press H to hide the Adjustment Brush Pin and O to see the are you have brushed(mask).
