I've just gotten a new iMac and have a fresh install of LR 9.0 - I can't figure out how to get the adjustment brush/gradient tool indicators to go away when I move the cursor out of the image area. I know it's possible, my old version worked that way.
Also, is there any way to get the adjustment brush "circle" to be more evident? It's so faint that I can hardly see it when I start to use the brush.
Thanks,
Gary,

Check the tool overlay setting at the bottom left below the image. You can’t change the visibility of the pins, however.
