I have been having problems lately with the toolbox features, particularly the adj. and healing brush. With the adjustment brush it seems to be working with a 1'sec delay with whatever I do. When I use the healing brush it moves around also delayed from my mouse and very choppy. Periodically the title bar will change from black to a bright blue and then the whole program flashes a bright white and then resets to where I was. I don't seem to have this problem with the crop tool, or anywhere else, but overall LR does seem slower than it once was. I tried turning off all other programs, and rebooting without and benefit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Jeff

Hi Jeff! Welcome to the forums! When you have a minute please fill out your signature using the USER CP link above. Knowing your OS and versions makes answering questions easier.

Make sure you have upgraded to LR 2.3 since this addressed many of the adjustment brush issues earlier versions had. Adjustment brushes are CPU intensive so you need to have a speedy computer with a lot of RAM to get good performance here.

Not knowing much else about your setup that's all that comes to mind at present.

Thanks Gene. My system is a few years old so that may be the problem. However it was working OK when I first installed LR a couple of months ago. I am considering reinstalling it to see if that will help unless there is something else I can try. If I do reinstall LR, how do I get my catalog back to the same state?
Thanks
Jeff

Your catalog should be fine. Just make a backup of the .lrcat file for safety. Once you reinstall open up the catalog and all should be as it was.

Another thought: If you have an aging nVidia graphics adapter, you might want to assure that your drivers are up to date, and have a search through these forums for keyword 'nVidia'. (Search function is on the NavBar upper right).

With older nVidia adapters, there are issues with the nView desktop management application as well as some driver specific settings conflicts. There are also occurrences of Windows auto-updates inadvertently reinstalling outdated drivers.

I tried reinstalling LR and updating my video driver without success. I realized that my problems started after I downloaded about 6'' photos last week. My HD now is about 75% full. I wonder if this is causing my performance problems (which now extend to other parts of the program).

If I need to add another HD (IDE), from a performance perspective would it be better to simply change my old HD for a new one, or could I keep both. If I keep both, would performance be effected if I simply made the new drive a slave, or would it be better to switch the master/slave positions?
Thanks
Jeff

Hard to say, but probably not.

Either is fine. There are minor gains to be made from keeping Lr's catalog and the original image files on separate drives.

Don't know for sure, but I speculate the difference is trivial.

Thanks
Jeff

You didn't actually say whether you're using nVidia or not. In some older generations of those, Lr was particularly sensitive to some of the acceleration settings in the nVidia drivers.
