Hi folks,
I've entered lots of keywords e.g, egret, bee eater, stork etc. and now realise that I should have grouped things into parent keywords e.g. Birds, then added in sub keywords after.

Is there a way to add "parent" keywords and then copy/paste in some way the smaller groupings e.g egret.

Hope that makes some sense.

Your keyword list can be exported to a text file where it can be editing using traditional editing methods including copy and paste. Reimport the list and it will fill in the missing parts you add when editing outside of Lightroom. Just don't move anything that is already attached to an image. ie. Add only. Don't subtract.

The easiest way that I know of is to just create the Birds keyword, then select the keywords you want inside it and drag them there.

In the Keyword List Panel, Click on a keyword to select it. The entire line should be highlighted. Click again and hold. Drag it on top of the keyword you wish to place it within. The cursor should change from an arrow to an arrow with a small box below it. When it does you can drop and the keyword you've dragged will be placed inside the keyword you are over.

The keywording panel is difficult to navigate within particularly when you have a lot of top level keywords. That is why I prefer to do most of my keyword structure outside of LR. Perhaps someday we will have a decent keywording interface.

I've been whining for 2 years now, but the engineers keep insisting on improving rendering quality, and noise reduction and performance and unimportant stuff like that.... :) (Tongue in cheek, but I agree, keywording has a chance to be so much better.)

I find the key wording feature fairly intuitive but rather cumbersome and limiting. Could definitely be improved but its not all that bad.
