Hi there.
I am using Lr cloud based desktop app.
Adding new photos, I get the dialog pop-up you can see in the attached screenshot.

Why are there two icons pointing to the same external memory card?
What are they for?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Best regards
Guido

Are you directly connecting the camera to your system? Does the camera have two card slots?

The memory card is connected via a card reader.
I get 2 icons connecting SD cards, although formatted by different cameras (Nikon D850 and Fuji X100v).
I get 1 icon (the camera) connecting CFexpress cards.

So are you saying that when there is only the one card (SD) in the card reader, you get two icons in the Add Photos dialog?

Weird. That doesn't happen on my installation. You could maybe try resetting the preferences to see if that fixes the issue: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
No way. Preferences reset didn't help. Two icons are still there.
One more clue.
Checking an SD card on which both raw and jpg files are saved, Lr behaves like so:

- camera icon. In the following dialog screen only jpg images are shown. No raw images. Where raw images are supposed to be, there are kind of "place holders."

- card icon. All files are shown.

See attached screen shots.

I don't usually add photos to Lightroom on my iMac. But inserting an XQD camera card from my Nikon does produce two icons of the same images when I click on "+ Add Photos" In Lightroom. This is not dissimilar to the LrC Import Dialog that shows my Nikon Z7 as an entry under devices and again as a mounted volume. I think Lightroom for the Desktop might be showing the same double information just like LrC.

Right. What are two icons for?

For me, they show the same set of images to import. My "Add Photos". Dialog looks the same as the image that you files posted. My camera card is named "Nikon Z 7" while your shows as "Untitled"
Based upon the LrC import Dialog, I thin the Lr dialog is reflecting the same MacOS formation. which id labeled different and more explicitly in LrC. If I import the same camera card in Lightroom Mobile, I only get one reference to the camera card. I think this is due in part to how the different operating systems read the attached device.

I think it's more likely to be a specific Ventura-related issue. When I tested this morning I was using a test system running Big Sur, and as I reported I see only one entry when I insert an SD card into the card reader. However, on my main system, running Ventura, I just tested with the same Lightroom version and I do see the same two entries as both of you do. Both of them show all the photos on the cards, but I don't shoot Raw + Jpeg so I'm wondering if the blank thumbnails when using the "camera" icon might be related to that.

It's probably worth reporting as a potential bug, using the link at the top of the page....at least we should get an indication from Adobe about whether they think this a bug or "as designed" behaviour.

A number of years ago, I has a similar issue on Windows. In my case, I traced it down to the card reader exposing multiple mount paths to Windows, and Windows exposing both to Adobe. I have also seen a similar issue with attached cameras. The camera exposes both the native access to the card, and also going through the virtual file system on the camera, which is usually just what is on the card.
