Adding manually selected photos to collections

I understand that to add photos to a collection, you can select it, click in the center and drag to a collection. Unfortuately, when I try that, nothing is added to the collection. I read on an older post that one had to click in the center of the sected photo and then right click on the collection to add. All that does for me is give me an option to create yet another collection that I cannot add to by selecting photos or the opportunities to rename of delete.

What am I missing? This should be very simple, but I cannot figure out how to do it even after reading how to do it.

Thanks, but that does not work for me. It moves up to the collection as a thumbnail, but will not enter the collection.

I think I'll just have to give up and add a specific keyword per collection and try that.

The collection must be a static collection not a Smart collection

And not a collection set either.
