Adding a copyright on my web images

Hi there,
I'm a new member here. I've been using lightroom since the early beta versions and love it. I have a question though, on how to add a copyright once in the web module. It seems it will place it on all images, just by checking that box, provided you have "a copyright tag present in the IPTC metadata".
How do you have a tag present in the IPTC metadata?
I guess the other way would be to create a preset? ( I haven't done one yet)
Can someone help? I'm getting a little more concern with my clients abilities to download my pictures, without buying them, and the watermark would give extra security.

Go back to Library module and look at the Metadata panel. That's where you enter your copyright details. You can also enter them on import using a preset, which might be really useful for future imports.

Using a Flash gallery rather than HTML will also make it a bit more difficult for people to download, although there are still workarounds.

Thank you so much for your quick response.
I did see that it's in the library module you find the metadata info. However, I'm still not sure as to how to do it: can you be more specific?
I would like for each of my images to have a copyright message in a low opacity, where do I type the message?, is it adding a keyword?
I do use flash, but one friend (who was testing it for me) was still able to print some very decent images..

Ah, ok, sorry. This is the bit you need just here:

The copyright options in LR are currently quite limited - it'll just put your name or other copyright details in the corner, so it won't prevent people from printing.

If you want a more extensive copyright watermark, you may decide to export with something like LR/Mogrify to add a graphical watermark, and then import those heavily watermarked files into LR to create your gallery. Just a thought!

Ok, got it. I was hoping I would have more options on size and where to place the watermark. I had also hoped I wouldn't need to enter that info for each picture, but sort of synchronize it to all.
Do you think I could create my own watermark layer in photoshop, and then import somehow into lightroom, and just add it as a preset?
Could that work?

You won't have to enter that individually for each image - see the sync metadata at the bottom? Add it to one, keep that 'most selected' and select all of the others, and hit the Sync Metadata button, and it'll add it to the rest.

As far as a watermark layer goes, I know you can do it in Print using an ID plate, but I'm not aware of any way of doing the same in the web module at this point in time. The export/add watermark/import is the only workaround I know of. That said, I haven't spent much time on the web module, so maybe Matthew, Sean or Joe (or someone else!) will have a few more ideas.

My though was to do it in the develop module, sortta adding a layer with a preset? I'm not sure how to make presets, but isn't there something like "droplets" you can create in photoshop, and batch it in lightroom?

Presets just adjust the controls in the Develop module, so that won't work for a copyright I'm afraid.

You can use a droplet, which basically takes exported files and runs a Photoshop action on them. That would work, but you would still have to import those resulting watermarked files back into Lightroom to be able to create a gallery, and IMHO LR/Mogrify does the same kind of job more easily now.

L/RMogrify only exports watermark in center

L/RMogrify will only place my watermark image in the center position. I'm using a .png file and adding it to the resized web images. I can only get the image to appear in the center even when selecting an off center placement. Thinking of switching to the droplet method.

Anyone else have this problem?

If i have a general preset for metadata upon import set, adjust a few other details in there such location, and then go to sync metadata, LR only allows me save the changes for this shoot if i make another preset.

If i choose not to make another preset, rather just save the changes, the sync doesn't sync.

Rob, how big is the PNG? I've been able to set it bottom right using LR/Mogrify in the past. Droplets work too, I just liked to be able to continue working in Photoshop without being interrupted.

Brad, that's an interesting problem. It's not one I've come across, but I'll have a play in a while. In the meantime, if you can replicate it, report it. Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form
