"Accumulating Metadata" Operation

I'm running LR 1.4.1 and I've got an operation that keeps flickering on my panel for "Accumulating Metadata"

I'm currently exporting some files to jpeg for upload and it's been at it for 1' minutes for 49 images - usually this operation is about a 3 minute job for my system. I think the "Accumulating Metadata" operation is hogging my proc cycles.

I noticed this operation in action during my editing of the photos over the last hour or so but it's still going.

Anyone have any ideas?

So is it still going?! Accumulating metadata is just checking the files for metadata, but it sounds like it's been at it for far too long. If it's still going, I'd restart the computer - that'll probably stop it and set you back to normal.

This is a right pain in the butt and slows me down when I'm trying to add metadata. It has nothing to do with rebooting in my experience. Not sure if it's the same issue as the OPs but it's something for a feature request/bug report me thinks.

The problem I've found with 'accumulating metadata' is that I'll type something into a metadata field, hit enter and then click onto the next field (or tab into it), and start typing. After a couple of seconds LR ignores what I do and starts 'accumulating metadata' at the same time unselecting the field I'm in. This means that any key I press acts as a normal LR shortcut key and I've ended up with untold mess depending on what word I tried to type. Usually several changes to my LR layout, module change, tool changes... It adds frustration and heaps of time to something that would normally take a few mins. I would normally apply metadata to a batch of pics, anything from 1' to 4''.

Stas, I've just suggested in another thread that the poster try the Sync Metadata button - that way you can type ALL of your metadata before hitting ok to apply to a batch of images. It's way quicker!

Hmmm.. good point Victoria, will have to change my ways and remember to Sync Metadata instead. Cheers.
