Working with circles is OK. But there were times, I wished I had a rectangular one so I take advantage of a flat surface.

Fervently and frequently requested. To the best of my knowledge, we've never really had an explanation why this hasn't been implemented. It must be dramatically difficult in the parametric XMP adjustment regime. (Or lower perceived priority.)

You would think that you can make all kinds for rectangular shapes with the cropping tool- somehow apply that to the spot remover. Oh well, I am not a computer programmer.

That's interesting. A circle has certain properties that make things like feathering easy to understand how they work. A square might present a few challenges here as you have corners and possible quite unpredictable effects.

In Photoshop you can use rectangular selection with feather, so I'm sure the people at Adobe know very well how to make a ractangular spot remover. It's all just mathematics in the end.
Anyway, I'm sure it comes down to marketing and sales. Adobe could easily pack LR 4 full with everything we ask for, but that's not really in their interest. Thay add small bits of extra features so that we keep buying new versions and/or upgrades.

No, there is no square spot removal tool. I said that there is a rectangular marquee/selection tool that can use feather. The difference between selecting and spot removal is basically just mathematics (as with anything in image editing) so if Adobe wanted to they probably could make a rectangular spot removal tool.
