Lightroom Classic and Lightroom
Operating System
  1. macOS 11 Big Sur
  2. iOS
  1. When I import from a camera card ( From Camera Device) , Lightroom only shows the Photos on the card and none of the video files. If I look at the card using the Files option, I am able to navigate to the mounted volume and to the folder containing the Photos and Video. I can then import the video files by selecting them. Is this standard? Shouldn’t I be able to import both the Photo and video files from the “Camera Device”?
  2. In Lightroom Classic I can capture a single frame from a video file. Is there a way to capture a single frame using Lightroom Mobile?
  3. It is my understanding that Lightroom Classic does not sync Video file to Lightroom (cloudy) Does the same hold true for syncing from Lightroom to Lightroom Classic?

I can answer #3. Lightroom does sync videos to Classic, but because Classic can't sync any changes back they are actually "unsynced" after they arrive in LrC (i.e. they do not appear in All Synced Photographs). This leads to a curious situation whereby the ASP total can be less than the All Photos total, whereas the expectation would be that the totals are the same. Another anomaly....if the video is in an album in Lightroom, it remains in the corresponding synced collection in Classic even though the file itself does not sync and does not have a sync icon.

A further aberration....removing the video from LrC will cause the version in the cloud to be deleted from the cloud, even though it's not apparently synced. Bottom line: be very careful how you deal with videos that have synced into LrC.

Hi Cletus

I just tested #1 - for me, both Lightroom Classic and Desktop see the Video files along with Photos (using an SD Card reader) - Canon files.

Sorry, not aware of a way to do #2 on Mobile!
Paul, although it wasn't clear I think Cletus was referring to import into LrMobile on his iPad ("From Camera Device" being the clue).

Then, the desktop version of Lr is definitely handling video files differently from the mobile version on import.

Apparently the frame capture function (#2) is missing from Lightroom (cloudy)

Apologies! No, that doesn't work (both tested and it's mentioned on page 36 of Edit Like a Pro) - I watch out for that on vacation if I shoot videos on my main camera and import using the Card Reader.

Because of the other issues that Jim mentioned, I think I will save any videos shot for importing on Lightroom Classic.
