Hi there,

I'm new at this forum.

I like to make pictures with my new D700 with old (non autofocus) lenses.

If your picture has just the right ingredients no filter or trick can make it better.

Welcome to the forum Sebastiaan! Yep, I completely agree, there's a lot to be said for good pure photography.

Hi tspear,

An older manual focus Nikon lens has the following advantages.

- Low price
- High availability
- High optical quality (lens elements in the lenstube)
- Better mechanical quality (AF lenses have to be loosely fitted otherwise the AF motor can't turn the lens in it's focus position)
- Autofocus does not work so it cannot mess up my composition
- That old (i'm fully in control of my camera) feeling.
- The picture it produces seems nicer but I cannot truly say that cause it is subjective. It is my opinion. Yours can be quite different.

Greets.

Sebastiaan.

Sebastiaan,

Hmmm, I may have to try it some. I actually use manual mode for the vast majority of my pictures for the same control feeling. I primarily use automatic mode when taking quick family shots in a rapidly changing lighting (e.g. going in/out of buildings at an amusement park).
