I am completely bemused by this one. Firstly, when I installed LR I used it in 64 bit mode - no problems at all. Today, while trying to isolate the 'web module options disappearing off the right hand edge of the screen' problem I switched it back to 32 bit - just to see if it was a 32 bit Flash versus 64 bit LR incompatibility (it wasn't btw).

Upon switching back to LR i had a very brief slide down message which said something about 'press esc to release the keyboard again" but it disappeared before I could digest what the heck it was talking about. Now I'm completely unable to type in Lightroom! It's recognising my key presses because if I select a word and hit a key the word disappears but no letters appear in its place and I can't complete text fields. If I switch back to 32 bit mode I am able to type again!

I've switched in and out of 64 bit mode a few times and each time in 32 bit mode I can type, and each time in 64 bit mode I can't.

Some other info

- I've rebooted
- I can still type in other applications
- I've tried every combination of pressing escape and learned that Front Row can be fired up with Command+ESC (never knew that) and still LR remains typing-locked in 64 bit mode.

Has anyone got any idea at all what this might be? ???

Re: 64 bit - typing problem (most bizarre)

Congratulations on the most bizarre problem of the week.

My initial thought would be to check System Prefs > Universal Access and see if you've got something weird turned on. That's the closest thing I can think of. Or keyboard preferences maybe? You haven't got Parallels or Fusion running?

Tried trashing the preferences?

Re: 64 bit - typing problem (most bizarre)

Thanks! :D
I am still completely baffled by this. I keep trying. The MBP is remote from home atm and so probably in its cleanest state - i.e. no peripherals, and all input through the MPB's own keyboard and tracker pad and yet STILL when I go into 64 bit mode it refuses to recognise any typing. Works perfectly in 32 bit. I absolutely have drawn a blank with this one. It did work at one time, stopped working around the time I had spent the day in the Web module (maybe related, maybe not) and now consistently won't recognise my typing in 64 bit mode.
Gah! >:D

Tried trashing the preferences, or reinstalling?

Re: 64 bit - typing problem (most bizarre)

I did try a reinstall from the original disk (and then downloaded 2.4 upgrade again) but I didn't clear the preferences - looks like I'll have to give that a go when I get back.

Re: 64 bit - typing problem (most bizarre)

Okay - after a bloomin lot of time searching all my preferences I was able to isolate and eliminate the problem. In my International settings I had "British - Microsoft" checked in order to get the " and @ the right way round for my external MS keyboard. However it would appear that the MS keyboard is using pure 32 bit drivers and so if you have that option set then when you fire up a 64 bit application (not just LR) you are no longer able to type in the text fields - even if you don't have the MS keyboard attached.

Through unchecking that option I am now able to type when in 64 bit mode again (*woot*). Of course all my @ and " are back to front again! Looks like I need to replace my MS Mac keyboard with something else.

Posting in case anyone else gets the same problem at some point.
