Hullo

I have Mac 1'.5.7Lightroom 2.4.
Ever Since I needed to trash Photoshop PS4 ( issues) and re-instated Photoshop CS3. (Within the next week I will be re-installing Photoshop CS4) The following issues have come up in Lightroom.........1. Brower Styles for Silver Efex Pro downloaded for Silver Efex Pro have disappeared. Have only the styles originals that came with the software.
Just to add I found I had two copies of Silver Efex Pro in Edit in ( Lightroom) - decided to uncheck save pre-sets with catalogue and this has corrected i. e it has reverted back to 1 copy in Edit in Silver Efex pro.

2. After editing in Photoshop PS3 - after save / or Save as - does not automatically return to Lightroom as previously. Instead window comes up with options to save somewhere on my Mac computer?
3. I am concerned that I have unchecked with " save presets with catalogue as I have read elsewhere that presets will fail to remain with the Catalogue if the "presets save with catalogue" left unchecked
4. I have an application that does backups once a week on opening Lightroom. I would like to save on my computer - what is the safest way to delete old backups?thank you

Sue

Sorry Sue, I have no idea about most of your post.
I don't think it is wise to be using a b/u application to b/u LR while it is open - it could easily lead to corruption of the catalog.
p.s. I'm off to bed as it's 11.3' pm here!! ::)

Hi Sue, sorry, catching up with a backlog of posts, so let's give this a shot...

1. Brower Styles for Silver Efex Pro downloaded for Silver Efex Pro have disappeared. Have only the styles originals that came with the software. Not a clue on that one I'm afraid, as I haven't used Silver Efex. It's on the to do list!

2. After editing in Photoshop PS3 - after save / or Save as - does not automatically return to Lightroom as previously. Instead window comes up with options to save somewhere on my Mac computer?

There is a different behaviour between CS3 and CS4. Are these raw files, or jpegs, or...?

3. I am concerned that I have unchecked with " save presets with catalogue as I have read elsewhere that presets will fail to remain with the Catalogue if the "presets save with catalogue" left unchecked

There are 2 different options - if you uncheck 'save presets with catalog' then the presets will be in the standard user settings location and available to all catalogs, whereas with it checked, they'll be next to that specific catalog. What concerns you?

4. I have an application that does backups once a week on opening Lightroom. I would like to save on my computer - what is the safest way to delete old backups?

Be a bit careful with backups while LR's open - you may find your backups are not usable. But if you do decide to delete backups, they're files on your hard drive, so you can delete using Windows Explorer/Finder as normal. Just be careful you don't delete all of your backups.

Grateful for your response
2.- they are raw files not jpeg. Why is there a difference in behaviour between Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 ? How can I rectify the situation for edited photos in Photoshop CS3 to be returned to Lightroom.
3. It seems to that keeping the pre-sets with catalogue in use is the thing to do!
4. Question that I did not ask in the first post is that when importing Lightroom pre-sets , there is an option to open with Lightroom 2 (default) or Lightroom 2.
Not sure what the difference is, but I always choose Lightroom 2 (default) - it seems right!!!

thanks
SueP.S sorry I seem so impatient - also trying to troubleshoot duplicate emails arriving in my macmail - very frustrating - nobody as yet can find the clue to solve this.

See now that's slightly weird. LR should be creating a PSD/Tiff (depending on your preferences), adding to that the catalog, and passing that file to CS3, which then a straight Save should return to the catalog. Is LR creating the PSD ok? CS4 is different, because it'll allow it to pass the raw data for ACR to open directly into CS4.

Ok, thing to try - go to Lightroom Preferences > and press the 'Reset all warning dialogs' button, and see what happens.

Either is fine - keeping presets with the catalog is only useful when the catalog is on an external drive and used with multiple computers, or where your presets are specific to one catalog and you don't want them showing up in other catalogs.

Say that again?

Well while we're at it then..... ;) POP or IMAP?
