When editing my vacation pics last night,I import in folders of approx 5 to 1' GB's, I got warnings of running out of memory...On the last, it went to blue screen. I upgraded to 2.6...Any help?

Try importing the photos in smaller batches.

Increase the size of your Swap file and shut down non essential applications (Like all the "helper" crap that Office, Adobe etc insist on loading as b/g tasks. Also kill Outlook for the duration of your import.
The problem is not LR but RAM choking applications. You are pretty much maxed out at 3Gb if you are running Vista/Win7 @ 32bit.
