2.3RC Sync bug?

OK, I think I've found something else that doesn't work, at least as I think it should work. I'm working on a series of photos in the Develop module, making general exposure and tonal corrections to each image and then moving to the next image. Nothin fancy going on. One of the images clearly has a bad white balance, but I know that the previous image of the same scene had the correct WB. Now, I could just hit the Previous button, but I don't want to copy all of the changes I made to the previous image, I just want to copy the WB settings. Also, I know that I have more images in the series that all want to have the same WB.

So, I go back to the Grid view, and select all of the images that I want to have the same WB, being careful to make sure the one w/ the correct WB is 'most selected'. Then, I hit the Sync button, clear all check boxes in the dialog except WB and hit OK. Back to the Develop module and discover that no changes have been made!

This has happened several times to me in the past couple days, but doesn't always happen. In fact, most of the time it works fine; occasionaly, it doesn't work at all. Finally found the pattern today. If I have manualy changed the WB on the image that I am syncing from, the sync works correctly. But, if I have not made any changes to it, so that it's still in 'as shoot' mode, the sync doesn't work. I think this is a bug, as it should copy the WB from the correct image, whether or not I've made any manual changes to it. Anyone else?

The trick here is that if your source image has the WB set to "As Shot", that's what's synced to the other images -- not the actual temp/tint values.

To sync actual temp/tint values, your source image has to have the WB set to something explicit. The simple fix is to change from "As Shot" to "Custom", which won't change the slider values, but then the temp/tint values will sync to other images.

Thanks Mark for the reminder. Victoria's post describes the issue exactly and I had also figured out after posting that I could force it to sync by changing the WB on the selected image to Custom.

I'm still not happy with it as I find it counter-intuitive. I suppose others will have lots of use for it, but I can't ever remember needing to select a large set of images to sync the WB back to 'as shot', whereas I go through the process that I described continuously. So, to me it's an extra, unnecessary mouse click. Actually, it's generally more than that as I usually have to do it more than once before I remember the (for me) work around. Cheers,

I do! But yeah, I know what you mean. Maybe a request for an additional checkbox - sync 'white balance values regardless of as shot'.

That would be an interesting idea. Sort of begs the whole question of how much of the user interface should be customizable by the user via option settings.

With most software, I tend to just go along w/ the default settings and learn to live w/ the strange quirks. However, I find that I do tend to spend a lot of time tweaking my browser, email, and LR interfaces. Well, I guess I would if I could w/ LR, but you get the point. I used to tweak Word and PS continuously. But, I've recently retired, so don't care so much about Word anymore and LR has nearly eliminated my use of PS. I guess my point is that while I don't really care too much about details of the user interface of SW that I only use occasionally, I care a lot about the details of my productivity SW. And LR is clearly in that class now for me. So, yes, I would like a lot more flexibility w/ setting default actions, etc. In fact, that's probably the second thing on my current LR wish list (1st is, and has always been, a true plug-in interface). OK, sometimes I'm a bit slow. I just realized this morning what you were implying in your message (I think). I was thinking about an additional setting somewhere in the program settings to let one choose which way the sync would work. Now, I realize you were thinking of an additional check box in the sync dialog. A much better idea!

So, I'm about to put in a suggestion to Adobe to include two radio buttons in the sync dialog for WB:

1. White Balance menu setting
2. White Balance values

I would appreciate anyone else who sees this as a desirable feature also putting in a request. Cheers,

this bugs me!

I hit Auto WB on one image and it was perfect - so i synced that WB to the other 15 images from the same shoot, and instead of changing the temp/tint values, LR synced the "Auto" adjustment for each image.
