Release candidate.

Release candidate = the one they'll release officially if no one finds disastrous bugs
whereas
Beta = will have big bugs.

You're pretty safe running an RC, particularly if you're having trouble with 2.2.

Okay!

It's up and running and I have never used the adjustment brush so that it actually works, mask and all until just now.

I am not breaking out the champagne quite yet, but, unless it starts getting slower, this RC is the real deal. Everything is fast - updates on the files, brush, cruising around the catalogue ... Just like it's supposed to be!

Good job Adobe! Thank you. :)

Done some testing, and this is good. I have a 4 years old PC with 1 GB RAM, but now I can actually use the adjustment brush with automask, it is flying

Like others have found, it seems to be much quicker than 2.2.
Some changes to how the adjustment tools operate, with one omission, unless I have missed a command, the lines that accompanied the graduated filter.
However...I am still finding that after a while, the program is still hanging. Looking at the task manager, I am not convinced that the memory issue has fully been resolved. I was in two minds what to do with my PC when the Power supply failed. Although cheaper, I was not convinced that replacing the power supply, changing to a larger HD, and increasing the memory to 2GB (from 1.5) was the best solution.
I am now more unsure about that decision The alternative was a new PC, I could not justify the additional outlay just at the moment, but I do wonder whether Lightroom demands a better PC than the one I have. In other words, is the problem more my PC than the software itself?

new computer? naaa

Calaf - I had a similar problem all at the same time that I upgraded to 2.2 and found that it was not working as well as it should. My main machine broke down and still remains sidelined while I decide what to do about it. In the meantime I've been using my laptop, which is not a powerhouse by any means. Nevertheless, with the RC version 2.3 I find that the speed of the program is better than it has ever been in version 2, and so far, adequate.

There is always room for a new and faster computer in ones life, but I would guess that Lr doesn't require an upgrade to perform satisfactorily.

You might note the many people with really fast and new machines who had the same problems that I had.

updated to 2.3 version, everything seems to be just fine. adjustment brush seems to work even better than 2.2, much better...

Is anybody else finding that the Export > Burn full sized JPEGs fault is still there despite the release notes saying it's fixed?

i am not sure what you reffer to but i exported full size jpegs from 5D raw files and they are fine...
what kind of fault do you talking about exactly?

Hi Dragnil, welcome to the forum!

Can you give us a little more information - operating system would be an excellent start? And did burning work correctly for you in earlier versions?

Hi Victoria,

I'm on Vista and it seems to be a Windows thing, more detail (to save me writing it all out again) is on: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7526b/14

The release notes say:

Bugs - Fixed
  • In the Windows 64-bit version of Lightroom an sFTP upload process could cause Lightroom to crash.
  • Slideshows could return to the first image randomly during playback.
  • A memory leak could cause Lightroom to crash while attempting to process files with local adjustments.
  • Canon EOS 5D Mk II sRAW files could process with artifacts in Lightroom 2.2.
  • Lightroom 2.2 could cause disc burning to fail for Windows customers.
and it's the last item. It worked just fine in 2.1. Not something I use very often but it was broken in 2.2.

Regards,

David

Just double check that the 32-bit version is installing David, as there were some reports of the installer picking up the wrong version. If you look in the folders of the download, you can install the 32bit exe directly.

Well oddly enough the installer unzipped with an "Install Lightroom 2.exe" which seemed reluctant to do anything so I installed directly from the "Setup32.exe" file and I'd be surprised if the 64 bit version would even run on a 32 bit OS.

Do we have any Windows users who can try this feature to see if it's still a problem or something peculiar to my set up?

Dragnil, welcome. We understand your frustration - to help us help you please fill in your signature (in the UserCP top left of this page) with relevant information such as I have, thanks.

Export full-sized jpegs

Works for my installation. With 2.2 I had to reinstall to get this function, but no problems found with "export full-size jpegs" following the 2.3 RC install.

Hi Geoff, not really frustrated except when Dan Carter's on the field - I don't use this feature but I was checking the state of play after installing 2.3 and just wanted to know if I'd found a problem in LR or whether my installation is a bit whacky.

Thanks, rhynetc, I might try the repair option.

David

Dan who????:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Thanks for taking the time to fill in your signature David!!

Still hanging "Not responding"

In about 8 hours of use I've had four hangs now. Three were in approximately the same place, but I cannot reproduce it on demand. It's always been after doing a crop, and then doing basic adjustments such as exposure. Often (always?) I had the crop tool still active.

Windows says "not responding" and I have to close.

One hang was on exiting lightroom completely, it gave the not responding as it disappeared. Odd.

I did file a bug report, but not reproducible is not very helpful.

Anyone else?

PS. Mine is on Vista, SP1, 4G, lots of raid disk, dual monitor, 32 bit.

PPS. I was subject to the memory leak in 2.2.1 and have not seen that problem since 2.3RC. I imported about 45' shots then started editing and culling and would have failed from memory long before it finally hung.
