I can't find a "master" thread where people report on 14.0.1 and whether it's worth upgrading to.

In the past, I could not upgrade quickly enough. I felt things could not go any worse in LrC with respect to syncing, performance, etc., so I jumped on every major and minor release as soon as it was available.

Now, for the first time in months, I feel things actually could get worse. The features in 14.0.1 are nice, but not crucial. If it improves LrC responsiveness after an import, great. But I am certainly not prepared to any breaks or deteriorations in my workflow. For once, LrC 13.5.1 is actually working.

There were not a lot of new features in v14. However some of the bugs in v 13.5.1 have been fixed. And 14.0.1 fixed one that was discovered in v14.0. Is v14..0.1 bug free? None ever are. So If you are running v 13.5.1 then v 14.0.1 will be a little less buggy.

I am usually an early adopter. And I have been with LrC v13-v14 and before. I've not had a problem and find it difficult to understand those that have had issues. especially Mac Users like me.

I see that you are still on Sonoma. Usually I have been an early adopter with MacOS too. Not this time. I'm still on v14. too. However I see the MacOS v15.0.1 is out and that might be enough to make me pull the trigger on MacOS

I'm on Mac 15.0.1 and LrC 14.0.1 and am really happy after a few pretty troubling months. But all is good now and I'm liking the new LrC a lot. My sync numbers to the cloud aren't perfect. I have only previews in the cloud and original videos. That way LrC is a master for everything. As I said my count is off a little but LrC is perfect and that's the important part for me. To give you an idea of how much, in LrC I have 114,418 All Photos, 103,562 All Synced Photos and 10,856 Videos. 103,562+10856=11,418 (perfect), but in Lr Desktop I have 106,471. So yes, there is some discrepancy, and I wish there wasn't, but to me it's a minor issue.

Hi

MacOS 15.0.1 will LR 14

I have never had any problems with LR, until v14. Since updating LR, which initially worked is constantly crashing the moment I load it. Adobe are working on it, but have suggested that there is a Mac profile corruption issue. I have a lot of images to process and deleted my LR.cat 13!! I may be forced to use CCC and reinstall the last working version. OMG what a mess.

Adobe deleted your v13 catalog??? Or you did? Adobe don't normally delete anything...

Do you mean the one saved in 'Old Lightroom Catalogs' that the upgrade made? If that's deleted, then go back to one of your previous backups.

Hi Paul

I can use CCC and go back in time to LR13, but will have lost work done on 1000 images. Adobe have not deleted anything. LR14 will not run on my Mac (macOS 15.0.1). I have created a new user profile, rather than root user, but LR still crashes. I have spent a couple of hours on the phone with Adobe, to no avail. They are calling back today.
I am a longstanding LR user and have never had any problems before. I have let myself down on this occasion as I usually do full backups before and after a such updates.
The only option is not to use LR, wait for new updates and try to install my LR catalog.
Regards

Martin

Okay, so you deleted the copy of the catalog that the upgrade made (note to others: don't do that!)

But what about restoring the last routine backup you made prior to the upgrade?

After two hours on the phone with adobe all is working well with LR14. My catalog is intact and everything is backed x3,

Something in the start up menu was blocking LR from working. We turned everything thing off (9 items) and one by one turned them on having rebooted in between. This cleared everything, but I didn’t find the app that was blocking LR! Adobe say that this a well- described but rare case of LR crashing (only a couple of cases a year). I was loosing the will to live, but am now ok. I cannot stress the importance of backup, especially prior to any update.

Hi Paul

I actually did that to no avail. After my talk with Adobe, everything was fine until yesterday! As soon as LR Classic v14 loads on my Mac I get the dreaded coloured spinning ball & LR stops responding! Al least everything has been carefully backed up.

What has been the upgrade experience of Windows 10 users? Windows 11?

What has been the upgrade experience of Windows 10 users? Windows 11?
I have just upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 this morning.
I decided a week ago to check if my rig was compatible with Win 11. I had an issue with an Epson driver initially. My AsRock Creator motherboard was listed as compatible and I found instructions to change the required BIOS settings. I wasted a week trying to get past the Windows BIOS security check… as I could see that the required adjustments were applied and appeared correct. I upgraded the motherboard to the latest version and my rig immediately passed the Device Security test. A short time later , from the normal Windows Update app I received a prompt advising me that a free update to Windows 11 was available.

I selected this option…. 30 mins to download, 30 mins to apply the upgrade.. I logged in with my previous password and was presented with the Win 11 desktop screen.

I will explore the pros and cons (from my perspective) over the next week or so.

I could have delayed updating perhaps for a year or two, but with the prospect of Lightroom not supporting my version of Win looming, I decided to get the Win 11 question mark answered.

If I run into Win 10 to Win 11 issues or feel I have something useful to add I will open a thread in the appropriate forum.

I didn't phrase my question sufficiently. I should have asked "what has been the experience of LrC users who upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11? Any issues? Any need to redo LrC config or usage?

LrC ran immediately after I logged in to Win 11 for the first time. I will post here if I trip over anything in the next few days.

It was so far back I can't really remember but I don't recall any issues at all.

So far, no issues running LrC on an upgraded Win 10 to Win 11 PC.

One Win 11 issue….. maybe self inflicted , with new gadget feature. I had no interest in default gadgets (ie weather, traffic, etc), so I removed them from the gadget panel… now I cannot add gadgets of interest into the empty panel. It is an annoyance, rather than an issue for me.

Quick update: 14.0.1 is working great for me. I see improvements in the time it takes from a large import (500+ photos) to the photos becoming workable: copy and paste settings, add and remove to collection, etc. No (new) issues. Some weirdness with long slideshows, but slideshows have always been buggy and are not the reason we use LrC.

Can you elaborate on bugs in the slideshow module?

In a nutshell.... When I say Slideshow has always been buggy I am referring to the fact that if ever I checked "Zoom to fill frame", the slideshow generation would quickly freeze and would never complete -- maybe I never waited long enough, maybe this option increases the build time exponentially.

I have not tried checking "Zoom to fill frame" in a while, so can't comment if it's fixed in 14.0.1.

What happened today in 14.0.1 was this. I selected 1061 photos and built a 44 Mb 23-minutes soundtrack for it by splicing together five mp3 in iMovie and exporting audio only as mp3 (should have tried exporting as m4a as I have found that LrC accepts m4a). The reason I wanted one file was to trim dead air at the end of some songs and add a bit of crossfade. The same five clips being added to LrC "as-is" produced ugly pauses between songs.

I normally prefer to use the "Sync slides to music" option, but the only result I was achieving was the slideshow taking 29 minutes, and the soundtrack looping over, not what I wanted. I switched to manual and dragged the Slide Length and Crossfades sliders until my slideshow duration was 23 minutes, same as my soundtrack. The slide length ended up being 1.2 sec with Crossfades at 0.1 sec.

When I exported the slideshow or just previewed it, it played the first 400 or so slides normally, then, as it was getting to the end of the second song, instead of crossfading into the third song, it glitched, went silent for a beat, and then restarted music from the beginning while continuing to advance the slides. Songs 1 and 2 played as before, and when it got to the end of song 2, song 3 came up. Instead of my planned soundtrack of songs 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, my slideshow played to songs 1, 2, 1, 2, 3. No matter which format or generation method I tried, it was always the same result, the glitch and restart came at the exact same time. I played my spliced soundtrack in QuickTime just to be sure, and it was fine.

I ended up trimming all 5 songs individually in QuickTime and adding them to the LrC slideshow one by one (after deleting the spliced soundtrack) as five m4a files (QuickTime will not save as mp3) for a total of 23 minutes, without crossfades. Then the slideshow generated correctly.

I've upgraded. The only issue I've expereinced is 3 crashes in the last 3 photoset (between 2500 and 3000 images each) in the last 4 days. I reboot before I start a folder of images...IADenoise runs faster if you reboot periodically. Nothing was lost on startup. Not a BIG issue, more a PITA, I expect that it will get addressed in the next few updates.

<sigh> Male it 5 times; twice today. It always happens when I DEVELOP>CROP, then reposition the crop frame and not all the time..

If you are running Denoise on large numbars of images it can really stress a machine and find the weak spots. Some of the weak points might be a power supply not able to deliver sufficient power, internal cables between power supply and GPU not appropriate (I had this problem), cpu or GPU over heating.

The other first port of call is ensure your system drive has sufficient spare capacity… min 100GB.

Are you getting error messages… what is the nature of the crash. Can you post a screen grab of the error condition.

Thanks...I run DeNoise on the edited images last thing at the end after post-processing on the RAW images with no issues. I do my processing on a 4 TB SSD C: drive with at least 3TB free and the catalog is on that SSD C:? drive.. I also run 64 RAM. Can't do a screen shot as there is no error or screen message...just POOF, gone.
Besides the upgrade, NOTHING has changed since running the latest V13 and I never crashed with that version.
