Hey there

Thought i would start this thread so i can ask some questions that i feel many just might get asked.

1. What changes have been made with ACR 4.4 in develop/calibration?

2. What are the advantages/disadvantages of choosing (3.3 or 4.4) one over the other?

3. Which would i use if i use a color checker?

Cheers
Brad

ps: No threads on 1.4.1 - everyone little tentative:roll:.

Hey Brad

The changes are at the extreme ends of the temp/tint sliders. If you can find a picture with a white balance right at the extreme ends, then you can toggle 3.3/4.4 on and off and see the difference. It's not huge, but the tones are a little more natural. Most shots you won't be able to see any difference.

Anything I do from this point on will be 4.4 - the old profile is still there for older shots so that already-developed shots render as initially expected.

If you use a color checker to get calibration settings, just make sure you use the same profile on both - I'd switch to 4.4 now - so make sure you've upgraded ACR to 4.4.1 and set LR to 4.4 when you save the settings as a preset - it saves the profile number as part of the preset.

The 5D profiles in ACR 4.4 are very close to my results using the fors script calibration method and ACR 3.3 that was previously used for the 5D Canon body.

I still need to redo the script calibration with CR 4.4 for comparison with my 5D body.

Thanks

I had heard it was closer to the 5D.

If i simply toggle it ACR4.4 does that change all the existing images, Or, do i have to apply it to them another way?

If i toggle it to 4.4 and then import, is it applied to the new imported images, or do i have to make a preset for every new imports?

In essence if i choose one over the other, i don;t want to have to make presets.

You'd have to turn on AutoSync and then toggle it, or change it and then Sync calibration.

It should default to 4.4 for any new files imported. If you've saved Calibration settings in your presets, you might want to update those.

Interesting

Without going through all 2''' images in my catalogue to determine which ones i have made development changes - specifically using the calibration settings for effect -how do i filter these out from the remainder of the images before i autosync?
