When synchronizing a folder's contents, everything begins to work fine. The images that have been manually removed from the folder are removed. However, the dialog box showing the removal progress goes to completion and then just hangs. No CPU usage, just hangs; it appears to get "stuck" before loading the import dialog for new files.

Jeremy, does this happen if Lightroom doesn't have to remove missing files from the database? There are a lot of references that need updating plus preview files to delete so it may be Lightroom is still tidying up and the progress bar isn't telling the truth.

Thanks for the reply, Mick. No, there is no "hang up" if it is not removing files. However, there were only a few file to remove. I can replicate it with deleting just a few files.

OK, I'll see if I can replicate it.

I can't replicate this on WinXP.

Removing 22 out of 44 photos from within Lightroom, I counted a delay of 9 seconds before those 22 were removed from the grid. On that basis, I would expect a similar delay and progress bar to match when allowing synchronise folder to remove photos.

Closing Lightroom I physically deleted the other 22, which left the 22 I'd removed from Lightroom still in the folder.

I fired up Lightroom again and did a synchronise folder to remove the database entries and previews for the photos I'd physically deleted and then show me the import dialog for the 22 I'd originally removed from Lightroom. If there was a progress bar for the removal, I didn't see it. The import dialog came up instantly.

Can I suggest you back up your catalog then run an optimise on it and see if that makes a difference?
