Hi
i found the 1.3 more slow then the 1.2 , i mean the sliders are slow to move in the develop module using the zoom ratio Fit to screen

the 1.2 is blazing fast , the 1.3 is slow

i run it on xp , p4 3.6 ,4gb of ram , and 4 sata2 in raid

i did notice that the sliders are slow , sticky not smooth only in the fit to screen zoom ratio in the other ratios it's fast

i played in the catalog setting , with different setting and i tried to render 1:1
, update ati drivers ,i have a x8'' pic express with 512 mb of ram

this version 1.3 has for me the same problem of the 1.'

ps i add the signature , but i don't know why i can't see it

Giovanni, you said you knew of other users with the same problem. Can you point us to those links, as it may give a few more clues about what's causing your problem.

Jitters. Hm. I'm going to keep watching to see what happens here - I haven't seen jitters, but am going to ask what may have caused this. However, everyone else here as asked all the questions I would have asked.

Giovanni, I'm curious why you are so adamant that the next version of LR wont' run well on your machine? As far as I know, we (Adobe) has made no comments on what the supported machines in the future are.

I am operating LR on a P4 Win XP sp2 1gb Ram 2,992 mhz processor which is 3 years old 8'GB main drive and 2''GB secondary drive. I have not seen any noticeable change in the performance from v 1.2 to 1.3.

Could it be that because of the reported improvement in performance with the auto write to xmp in version 1.3 that users have reactivated this function. Even if there has been an improvement with this function I am sure there will still be some performance reduction with this facility activated

I am puzzled by the negative performance function of 1.3 vs 1.2 reported by some users which I am not experiencing. There must be some logical reason.

i have auto write to xmp OFF

I'll take a wild guess... Have you generated previews for these images? Are they big enough?

If you generate 1:1 previews, does the problem go away?
i did generate every type of preview , and i did test them
nothing changes

give a look here

about 1.3
there some options
i can't post every users that found problem with 1.3

Unfortunately, I need 1.3 for my 4'D or stay with 1.2 and wait for the Canon fix (which I may do). I do see difference, even in Develop on my XP SP2 machine, but in develop. The sliders are "jumpier" not smooth, for example when adjusting detail, sharpness, etc. I hit the ALT Key, and even the screen change takes a bit longer to execute, the sliders lag, and instead of a smooth increase (or decrease) in masking, it jumps in bigger increments. I'm also seeing the Rendering messages in Library and longer load times in Develop. Sounds like this is common to Mac and Windows? I had none of these issues on 1.2

LR 1.3 runs unacceptably slow on my iMac Dual Core 2 (2.16Ghz, 3GB RAM). Especially when using the zoom in the Library Module. I returned to version 1.2, which runs smoothly. Too bad I had to reinstall my whole system, because after removing LR MacOS X didn't let me reinstall LR again (???). What a waste of time...

My experience is that 1.3 is less responsive on my pc aswell. My impression is that sliders and some renders (e.g. 1:1) are slower. Also returning to grid view is not responding as quick anymore.
But part of the problem is that these findings are not consistent, Lightroom seemes to perform different from time to time (yes, my pc is not runnin other processes). Sorry for not being more spesific (I'm not to happy about stopwatches and making Excel graphs). But at least it's my impression..
Using an avarage system with Vista, C2D 2,4Ghz, 2GB ram, Nvidia 86''gs.

I guess more responsive sliders ranks on top of my wish list.

I want to add my voice to the "1.3 is slower than 1.2 list"

We work with both PC's and Macs, and we are both sitting here shaking our heads as to the slowness... almost unusable when trying to sort photos.

The slowness is very dramatic AFTER you have applied a few edits to a photo. So if you have cropped, adjusted exposure, etc, to a bunch of photos, and then you want to go through all the adjusted photos to further narrow them down, the "rendering larger version" message goes on for a long time between each photo. While that happens, the photo is very blurry.

Lightroom seems to be an acceptable option only for people that are working with a few dozen photos at a time. In my case the collection that I have adjusted and am trying to narrow down is about 33' images.

Yes, I have rendered the photos both large and 1:1. From RAW files.

I am re-rendering now (over 1 hour so far and still waiting) the large versions after they have been adjusted.

If forcing a re-render fixes the problem, that means that Lightroom is not storing an adjusted preview whenever it leaves a photo, causing the preview to be recalculated every time it gets revisited from then after. It seems that crop and rotate can make things really bad.

(And before you bother Lee Jay... we know that Lightroom works perfectly peachy-keen for you all the time)

Giovanni, I'm really sorry you and those other users are having problems, and it looks like we've already made every suggestion we can come up with. Unfortunately it's impossible to test every LR release on every combination of hardware under the sun, and considering the problems you've had from an early stage, it sounds like there are incompatibilities with your hardware or even operating system language, if you're not running an English version.

At least you can rest assured you've been heard by Adobe, and they are aware of the problems that you're having. Hopefully they will be able to figure out why you have a problem ready for the next release. Or you could always ship them your machine to test on! ;)

Could I suggest that you return to using 1.2 for now, particularly as it was 'blazing fast' and the 'sliders were smooth' for you, and just like 1.2 improved the situation for you, hopefully future updates will do the same.

I'm going to close this thread now, as I think we've discussed this as far as we can.
