1.2 Crashes With Vista

i have 2 computers, 1 with windows xp and 1 with windows vista. ever since i have upgraded to lightroom 1.2, the vista system crashes every single time i select the develop module...rendering it impossible to use lightroom. and it doesn't seem to support the presets i loaded. i have never had a problem with lightroom with xp.
any ideas? adobe suggested that i rename the preference file, which did not work. help! i am pulling my hair out!

I haven't run LR on Vista at all, and being early days for both, I guess some incompatibilities aren't unexpected. That said, let's see what we can do about getting you back up and running.

For a start have you tried starting a brand new catalog? The bizarre problems could be down to catalog corruption, so it would be worth a fresh catalog and importing some of your pictures to see if it works properly.

Also, with your Vista machine, did it come with Vista on it, or did you upgrade it? I'm wondering if something could have gone wrong in an upgrade.

You've obviously already tried removing/renaming the preferences file, which didn't work for you.

If the new catalog doesn't fix it, I'd consider reinstalling LR next.

thank you for your reply victoria. i never received the email to tell me there was a reply and frankly i have been so fed up trying to find the answer, i put it off for awhile.
i'm back to try again and i have added my signature.

the machine is new and fast and powerful...vista was already loaded on it. it's not the presets, nor the preferences, nor the catalogs. i have tried everything i could imagine, including a reinstall more than once. i now have the most recent version 1.3.1...but no change. once i select the develop module it crashes.

i feel as if i'm the only one with this issue. if there is anyone else out there with the same issue, i would love to hear from you.

Hi Marcia. Nice to see you back here. Sorry to hear you're still having problems!

Ok, let's take this right from the start then, as this sounds really frustrating.

For a start, let's get back to a factory fresh condition.

Delete your preferences file or rename it.
Move all presets out of the application data/adobe/lightroom folder just in case there's a corrupted preset somewhere (crashing when going into Develop would make this my first place to look)
Open LR with a nice fresh catalog and check you can move through the modules ok.
Then try importing just a few images you know are ok.
Keep flicking back and forth and adding/changing things until it crashes. That should help narrow down where it's going wrong.

i really appreciate your help.

i have tried all of that in the past, but i tried it again. my develop presets are moved, i started with a fresh catalog with a few photos (i have never had a problem with importing). i am able to move in and out of all of the other modules, but again, as soon as i select the develop module it crashes. the issue definitely lies within the develop module.
i was reading on the adobe forum that a few folks with the same graphics card i have (nvidia 86'') were having the same issues with lightroom. i updated the drivers, and i even disabled anything nvidia related in my start up item, but none of that worked.
this is beyond mind boggling!

update:
i have narrowed down the issue to lightroom's compatibility with the nvidia card. it is a mobile series (for laptops) 86''M GT and nvidia does not have a driver update for it. they passed the responsibility onto dell who built the machine. i have submitted a report with dell and they are keen to fix the issue for me.
crossing my fingers....
