    RSS feeds

HI. Great job on getting the new software up and running, it is certainly an improvement in lots of ways. BUT, I know , there’s always one PIA with a but, I much prefer to read the posts via the RSS feed finding it much quicker; will there be an aggregate feed with all posts and...

    Grey Squares after importing?

If you are importing from the camera try a card reader instead. This has also been reported as a cause of the problem but I have not seen the reason explained.

Ready to upgrade, delete trial first?

BUT ... do not use the CD in the box, download the latest version from Adobe's site and enter the serial number from the purchased copy. The CD in the box will most likely be an older version of LR2. EDIT: Sorry Victoria, I was not paying attention .....

Plugin "Imagemonic" don't work in Lightroom 3 Beta

Most plugins for LR2 will not work in LR3 until the plugin developer re-writes it and my guess is that most will not do that until LR3 comes out of beta and the finalised SDK is available.

"The file appears to be unsupported or damaged"

This is most often the first sign of a failing hard disc. Check your existing backups are OK by viewing the suspect files and then I would take a totaly new backup now even if it means buying a fresh external drive. Then run a disc checking program and keep your fingers crossed.

    NEF files not importing

What camera are the NEFs from, your profile shows LR 1 and this will not support a lot of newer cameras.

    Restoring Backup

I'm not a Mac user but I would guess that you need to restore the Catalogue file back to its normal working location. When you open a catalogue file lock files are created for the session and that would seem to be where the error is comming from. Also I think that if you restored image and xmp...

White Balance Discrepancy - RAW vs. LR import

I think you will find that LR respects the WB setting of the camera when processing the RAW file, it is one of the few adjustments it does use from camera.

    Loading Lightroom onto Laptop

Yes it is the same serial number you enterd during the original installation on your desktop. If you no longer have a note of the number got to LR on the desktop and look in Help | Lightroom Activation and check the Licence tab.

Light Room 2.6 import issues with Canon S90

This is a commonly reported problem when trying to import directly from the camera, the usual solution suggested is to use a card reader and the problem almost always goes away. I do not think I have ever seen a real reason for the problem being put forward other than in some cases the user has...

    archiving pictures for future alteration

Cletus, John, I wholeheartedly agree with both of you, I’m an advocate of the one catalogue, all on line approach myself and with the price of HD storage see no reason not to be. I was simply answering the OP’s original question; I guess I should have started the first paragraph with “IF YOU MUST”.

    Loading Lightroom onto Laptop

You can install on two machines provided they (or at least LR) are not used at the same time.

    archiving pictures for future alteration

Why not select the RAWs then export as catalogue making sure the include negatives is checked for security I would also create the .xmp files as noted above. Then make sure the new catalogue opens OK and make at least a second copy of it (not a DVD or CDROM) before deleting the files from the...

    Monochrome

You can't, if you are taking RAW format the basic data is in colour, the embedded .jpeg which you view on the screen is created in the camera according to a set of processing rules designed by the camera manufacturer. The instructions for this image are contained in the private part of the RAW...

    Non-congruant crop?

It seems easier if you drag one corner outside of the image area, I usually drag out to the right and up to go portrait or down and left to flip back to landscape.

LR3 beta - smart collection problem

Adobe also encourages people to respond in the U2U LR3 Beta Forum at http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/lightroom3/.

    Renaming a folder

I have not seen a list but another good source for information on this is the Adobe forum devoted to LR3 Beta at http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/lightroom3

    File offline/missing error

"but I don't do that very often" ... then you will loose a lot of work one day! If it can happen it will happen, back up after every session. Drive imageing may not be the best way but running a back up when you get up for lunch or before you shut down is the only way to go.

LR3 Import from Catalog missing "Copy new photos" option

I had read that this was not possible but had not tried it, the option to import a catalogue is in the menu and selectable. However, when you attempt to import a catalogue created in LR2.5 a message box pops up stating that you cannot upgrade catalogues created in previous versions. On checking...

LR3 Import from Catalog missing "Copy new photos" option

I think you will find that Adobe disabled this option to discourage people from switching to LR3 Beta as a production product. I guess it’s to prevent a lot of the wholesale whining that will go on when users find some of the things from the Beta have been revised in the final release and no...

    Cleanup directory to match Catalogue

I’m not sure this is the quickest method but in a similar situation I exported my catalogue (having checked include negatives) to a new location and checked it was OK. I then made sure I had an up to date back of my original library and catalogue before selecting all the pictures in the in it...

    Cropping

The cropping works on the ratio, so 6 x 4, 3 x 2, 12 x 8 etc are all the same to LR. The final size of the output is set in the export dialogue or print module either by selecting a pixel size, ppi or sizeing to fit the selected paper/layout etc.

What about going back and re-PP'ing from scratch?

Create a virtual copy, reset and start again. You can do this as often as you like and the great thing is a vitual copy takes up almost no disc space. However, the image will only exist as a set of instructions in the catalogue, so as ever BACKUP, BACKUP and BACKUP again.

    LR 3 beta import issue

Then click on the downward pointing arrow head in the box in the lower LH corner to bring up the full import screen, navigate to folder with the image, click 'Uncheck All' and just select the the image you want, then click import.

    LR 3 beta import issue

I did not think you could only import 1 image from a "catalogue". However, it did take me a while to spot the big arrow in the bottom left corner of the import dialogue which opens the new super import screen which is a great improvement.
