Consequences of Deleting Preview File
John - I have already taken the steps you suggest and also removed 1:1 previews but which did not seem to have much impact on reducing the preview file size or improving overall performance. I suspect the main reason is having the catalog on the external drive (Drobo 4 bay) which unfortunately...- StuartK

Many thanks John. I guess I just needed the reassurance of an expert that something bad would not happen or that LR would start up and take ages and ages to re-build the previews for about 80,000 existing images! Stuart- StuartK
