    Odd Bug LR 5

Thanks Victoria - I'll monitor it and see how it progresses.

    Odd Bug LR 5

I get it just happening. No batch renaming, no deletions, just in the middle of adjusting a setting or using that awful clone tool, I see the preview image change to one of the others - and my mouse is nowhere near it, working on the main screen. And then the rogue preview sticks until I click...

    Clone tool awful on LR5

Thanks Jim, Sorry if I grumped, but my point is still that something as basic as the clone tool, that can only be used in one of two ways, therefore being totally controlled and predictable, should not have got out needing to be fixed. Adobe rushed it and cut corners in my opinion.

    Clone tool awful on LR5

Oh good... This is a fairly fundamental change from LR4, so this implies that it wasn't thoroughly tested but rushed to release. So that doesn't fill me with confidence about moving to 5.2RC, which is, after all, only a candidate for release and still needs further testing. So do I risk moving...

    Clone tool awful on LR5

Is it just me and my PC? The clone (dust removal) tool is nowhere near as good as it was on LR4. Now, if I left click on a spot, it shoots off to some distant corner of the image to clone in something that may be the right overall density, but the wrong content. And usually outside the image...

User settings lost on change to 64 bit Windows 7

SORTED!!!! I completely forgot about 'hidden files', so now all the presets are in, checked and working. Many thanks for holding my hand on this - and you were quite right about the old PC being XP.

User settings lost on change to 64 bit Windows 7

Originally it was unchecked, but when I saw that the presets weren't there, I went into the old PC and checked it, then did a new backup, which also had no user settings. I found the LR Settings folder and moved it across, but the User Preset folders are empty in every case. I've looked all over...

User settings lost on change to 64 bit Windows 7

I've been running LR since before it was beta, always on a 32 bit PC. Now I have a 64bit PC and have re-installed LR on the new system. I've done several backups in the final days of the old system and used these to boot LR, but none of them has carried over my import metadata settings, user...

    Backup on demand?

Yes, Cletus, I realise what you and the others have been doing and appreciate it. I've already submitted a Feature Request about an hour ago, so we'll see what happens in V3. You're wrong to think I see it as a limitation; it's just a way that LR could be even better. Thanks again to everyone...

    Backup on demand?

Hi Clee, Maybe I've not been clear... I'm not talking about anything like as complex as this has become. I'm simply saying why not have the option of a LR backup (the catalogue etc) at exit as well as the existing launch options. That's all!

    Backup on demand?

Thanks Victoria, yes it would create the same result, but wouldn't it be better if one of the backup options was 'on exit', as it would make sure that the most recent version of your work (including any work in progress on an image) would be saved automatically.

    Backup on demand?

As far as I was concerned, I only had one catalogue - I don't have a need for any more than that. But I still think it's a better procedure to backup at the end of a session rather than at the beginning. So my question is still is there any way to back up on demand?

    Backup on demand?

I've been using LR since the very first, so I should know this by now. :-[ You can specify LR to backup at various times, but always on opening. Surely it should be possible to specify 'backup now' or 'on closing'. The reason this has come to mind is that recently LR launched without finding...

    sooooo slow....?

I've noticed exactly the same and wondered about it, but now you ask the question, it makes sense! If you look at the image at 4''%, you'll see that what looks like a continuous tone is actually islands of different tones, especially on skin. So the automask detects these differences and applies...

    Lightroom for Linux

Lightroom for Linux would be brilliant! Then I and many others could finally be free of the Microthing empire and work on a system that is safe (virus free) and reliable. PLEASE....

    Are keywords Exif data?

For what it's worth.... My personal workflow is to import the images into LR, delete, tweek and rename the remainder, then add captions and keywords in the fields marked as such (copyright is inserted by my preset on import), then export files as jpegs if they're going to be sent out. In...

    The missing thumbs mystery...

I'm probably missing the point here, but each catalog can be set to retain the thumbnails for a period of time. By default it's 3' days, but you can set it to 'never'. Does that help?

    Couple of problems

Dean, I'm chasing a similar problem. My hard drive is partitioned and booted to Ubuntu or XP. After I installed LR2 I can't access Ubuntu, and XP only sees the Windows part of the drive. I wondered if it was just a coincidence, but now it looks as though it may be LR2 related.

    Dual Boot system problems?

It may be a coincidence, but ... After upgrading to LR2, my system won't recognise Ubuntu (Linux) or anything outside the Windows partition. It won't boot Ubuntu or diagnostics from a live CD, and Windows says it's unable to complete Scandisk but gives no reason. As I say, it may well be a...

    Dual Boot system problems?

Has anyone had a problem with a dual boot system after installing LR2?

Lightroom locking up on export of multiple operations

Yes, I've seen that as well. With LR1.4 I used to regularly export to 3 different folders at the same time, but when I tried this with LR2 the other day, it locked up. I didn't make a note of quantities, but they were not exceptional and no more than would be handled by LR1.4

Lightroom 2 - CPU overheating, Motherboard and Video Card burned up

No, Ian, nothing at all. With LR1 everything was fine, as soon as I upgraded it to LR2 there was no dual boot possible and it won't see anything outside the windows partition.

    Couple of problems

Hi Dean, You seem to be sharing a problem I'm experiencing. Since upgrading to LR2, my system no longer sees my other OS (Linux Ubuntu) or anything outside the Windows partition. It won't even boot from a live CD. I've been thinking it's my hard drive failing, but maybe not!

Lightroom 2 - CPU overheating, Motherboard and Video Card burned up

Can I add an odd, maybe related, experience? I upgraded to LR2 and since then I've been unable to dual boot, even from a live CD. I can't run a diagnostics disc either. Just a coincidence? Is my 6month old hard drive cracking up? Or are all these related?
