    To clarify, when within Lr, photos were no longer there, as shown in message 10 above, I thought perhaps it was because a proper Smart Previews folder was not attached to the Catalogue (as most of my photos are on my external drive).

    I just checked and I have just 42,903 photos. I don't understand why my catalogue is so huge. I have a Smart Preview folder that reads that large as well. This makes no sense to me.
