  • The November 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. Lightroom Classic includes the ability to export the same photos as multiple sizes/formats in a single export, content aware fill for panorama edges and more. It does require a catalog format upgrade and there are updated system requirements, so you may want to wait a few days before upgrading.
Lightroom (cloud-based service) has export options (such as TIFF format, renaming and color space), custom sort order on the desktop, copy/paste to multiple photos on iOS and more.
The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes.

    What Am I Missing??

I just wanted to thank you all for your patience and excellent help! I now have successfully synced smart previews of specific photo groups from Classic on my PC to the cloud. I did this by creating collections in Classic for each related group of photos, turned on sync for each collection and...

    What Am I Missing??

Hi, Folks, Just getting back to this idea. I re-read through all your great tutorials, etc., but I'm still very timid to start and have lots more questions. I hope you're still willing to help, but if not, I'll understand that this is a long list of questions! o_O Jim Wilde said I could use...

    What Am I Missing??

PhilBurton, I am retired now, but I was a QA lead for many years, and later a software development manager. I don't write any code. I got into QA in the early 80s, at a water engineering firm that used VAX computers with dumb terminals on people's desks. It wasn't called QA in those days -...

    What Am I Missing??

I really thank you all for your detailed and patient explanations! I need to figure out what I want to do now. Oh, and Phil Burton, maybe not a curmudgeon, but it does say you're a "senior" member... ;) But, yeah, I agree. I assume the reason Adobe opted to release this confused mess...

    What Am I Missing??

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone! MarkNicholas and Jim Wilde, it sounds like having some smart previews from my desktop Lr 8.x Classic available for viewing from my phone via the cloud as well as being able to quickly upload phone photos to my Lr Classic on the desktop are two uses I would...

    What Am I Missing??

MarkNicholas, thank you. Your uses actually sound like what I'd like to be able to do. Would you be able to point me to step-by-steps for setting up to do those things? My fear (as I said) is that in my ignorance about setting up Lr cloud functionality, I'll inadvertently turn on some sync...

Thanks, Ferguson. Appreciate your POV and it sounds right for me, too. :)

    What Am I Missing??

Am I seriously missing something I'd really love by not using the cloud-based version of Lr? Background: I've been using Lr for about five years. I use Lightroom Classic 8.x via the Photography subscription plan on a windows 10 desktop. I also use Photoshop. I sell my work, mostly...

Editing Watermarks On The Fly During Export?

Thanks, Rikki, It's pretty simple, I sell my photos as artwork for people to hang on their walls. I have found that people appreciate signed/dated artwork and prefer the signature visible but not too obvious.

    Watermarking

Thanks, Jim, but "where it was" doesn't exist anymore, since I totally reorganized my folder structure. :(

    Library module Lights out

I have Classic 7.0.1 and have the same problem (Windows 10). I must admit that until reading this thread, I never thought of using Lights Out for the Grid - I have only used it for Loupe View. But now that I see how it could look, I'd love to be able to use it for Grid AND Survey Views. For...

Editing Watermarks On The Fly During Export?

Operating System: Windows 10 (latest version) Exact Lightroom Version (Help menu > System Info): Lightroom Classic CC 7.0.1 Hi, All, Here's another Watermarking question: I use graphic (as opposed to text) watermarks extensively to add my signature and year date to my photos on export. These...

Operating System: Windows 10 (latest version) Exact Lightroom Version (Help menu > System Info): Lightroom Classic CC 7.0.1 Hi, All, I use graphic (as opposed to text) watermarks extensively to add my signature and year date to my photos on export. These watermarks are saved in different colors...

Please Help! Custom Watermarks Don't Work after Upgrade to 6.7

I have a long list of custom watermarks that I use frequently. I upgraded to LR 6.7 a few days ago, and now when I attempt to use one of my custom watermarks, they aren't applied to the image. The list is still visible in LR, but I'm guessing the pointer to the watermarks got messed up. How...

How to Crop and Maintain Quality for BIG Prints

Thanks, Jim. Do you know if the image size matters when you are looking at the image at 50% magnification? So, for instance, if I want the image to be printed at, say 16" x 20" do I need to set the image size to those dimensions before looking at it at 50% magnification in order to know if it...

How to Crop and Maintain Quality for BIG Prints

Tony, I truly appreciate your advice and, as I said in my previous post, I'm studying these topics as we speak. I have an opinion I'd like to share on just how much I should delve into the technical aspects. I am giving this opinion with a huge amount of respect for your opinion (and others...

How to Crop and Maintain Quality for BIG Prints

Cletus, thank you SO MUCH!!! This is exactly the type of information I was hoping to get! If you have the time, I'd love to take you up on your offer to expand on what you already provided. One of the questions I have is how to best get an on-screen "preview" of the...

How to Crop and Maintain Quality for BIG Prints

That looks like it would be good, but it's a bit pricey for me at this time. It also looks like it covers quite a bit on printers and their use, and I have my images printed by an art print shop here in town and don't expect to be investing in large-format printers anytime soon. I was kinda...

How to Crop and Maintain Quality for BIG Prints

Hello, I need help and hope this is the correct section for this question. I hope somebody can give me some guidance! My problems are that I’m new to LR and to photography and, probably most important, I am “numerically challenged." By that I mean I struggle greatly trying to understand...

    Changing Background in LR

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. So, first I'll start over and try again with the radial filter (now that I've had a bit of practice). If I still can't get the look I want, then I'll try using layers in GIMP (to which I'm also new, so more learning!). Thanks!

    Changing Background in LR

Is it possible and/or worthwhile to make major changes to an image's background using LR? For instance, I have a bird shot where my f/stop was at 8 and the leaves behind the bird are too in focus and distracting. I'd like to blur out the background or maybe even make it black. However, the...

In "Library" Mode - Folders vs. Collections

Thanks, Cletus, so do LR users generally create static and permanent (until removed) collections for those purposes (to contain pointers to images matching a particular topic or other constraint) or do they typically rely on key words to create "on-the-fly" smart collections when needed? I'm...
