    Online storage

Hi Alan, I should have thought of that! I can manage with 1TB at the moment as I just upload raw files and no videos. I would like to see Adobe revew their online storage prices though.

    Online storage

Maybe an obvious question, but have you thought of just switching over to Lightroom CC completely? The desktop version is still lacking on the library management and output sides but is developing rapidly. It certainly makes sharing your images across multiple a very smooth experience.

How do I display only images by Capture date

Another useful tool is to right click on an image and select Show Photos from Same Date. Handy after a keyword search when you want to find photos from the same shoot.

Migrating Classic catalogue for the second time after deleting Lightoom CC catalogue

Thanks Jim. Having images in the cloud to download into Photoshop is the big attraction to me of LRCC. I don't always have the external drive with my image library attached to my laptop - this should all work very well.

Migrating Classic catalogue for the second time after deleting Lightoom CC catalogue

Jim, One last question - do you use the option to store the LRCC images locally or just keep the images imported into Classic as your local copy?

Migrating Classic catalogue for the second time after deleting Lightoom CC catalogue

Hi Jim, Thanks for that, it looks ideal for my workflow. I'd orinally planned only to use Classic and LRCC in parallel for a short while until I was sure that I could do all I needed in LRCC. It might be a while before this is possible so syncing them like this is obviously the way forward...

Migrating Classic catalogue for the second time after deleting Lightoom CC catalogue

Thanks Jim, Importing the images into LRCC rather than Classic sounds a much better option. After I've imported existing images into LRCC is it best to create a new Classic catalogue before turning on syncing? How does the metadata added in Classic for existing images get transferred to LRCC...

Migrating Classic catalogue for the second time after deleting Lightoom CC catalogue

While trying to run Classic and LR CC desktop in parallel, I managed to get things out of step. I decided to delete the Lightroom CC catalogue and all cloud images to get things tidied up in Classic. When I try to migrate the tidied catalogue to CC though, I get the error saying the catalogue...

Show camera EXIF data in LR CC Desktop?

Thanks, I've come across a few things in the last couple of days that might keep me with Classic for a bit longer.

Show camera EXIF data in LR CC Desktop?

Thanks Jim, I think the Metaviewer Viewer only works in Classic though. Classic does show some of the metadata from the camera so I'll try the plug-in.

Show camera EXIF data in LR CC Desktop?

Is there a way to show all of the camera EXIF data in LR CC Desktop? The data is obviously retained as I can see it in Bridge if I save the original locally.

    CC or Classic?

Thanks for the links, Ken, I'd read Victoria's article but not the one in Photography Life, thanks as well for the comments, John. I planned to go with LR CC until my subscription year ends in April - a) to give time to see how much Adobe adds to LR CC and b) to see if I can live the...

    CC or Classic?

Hi Ken, What do you find missing in LR CC on the post processing side? As far as I can tell most (all?) of the Develop module settings are in LR CC, but it's certainly very lacking in the Library and other modules. For a number of reasons I've made the transition to LR CC, but I do a lot...

    Merry Christmas

A Merry Christmas to everybody and very best wishes for 2019, who knows what excitements Adobe have in store? Thanks as well to Victoria and the other gurus for all their help and advice. Chris

    music filing system

I've used JRiver Media Centre cataloguing and playback for a number of years and have always been happy - it can play just about any audio or video file and has very powerful tagging and editing features.

    TIFF vs PSD

Thanks John, Save As sounds the safest option - the file sizes of PSD and TIFF are staggering compared to raw but disc space is cheap these days.

    TIFF vs PSD

Where do you set the TIF compression options, John - is it in Photoshop or Lightroom?

    TIFF vs PSD

Thanks John, in light of both your replies I'll stick to TIFF.

    Thanks Cletus, that's helpful

    TIFF vs PSD

In Classic, I've always edited raw images in Photoshop as PSD, but Lightroom CC only allows TIFF. TIFF is also the default setting in Classic, so is there any reason not to switch from PSD to TIFF? As far as I can tell TIFFs are significantly larger but are there any other drawbacks?

Decision time - Lightroom and Photoshop

That's pretty much correct, except that I don't sync anything with Classic - I just use it to import images, delete the really bad ones, but do no other editing. In LR CC, I cull more ruthlessly, do metadata changes, raw development, etc. Anything I just want to print or export, I edit in...

Decision time - Lightroom and Photoshop

Thanks Victoria, it's good to get a 'sanity' check. What I forgot to say is that I do prefer the new LR CC interface and it's definitely snappier on my PC. For the moment I've decided to continue importing into Classic and use this as an archive of untouched images (apart from total...

Decision time - Lightroom and Photoshop

Printing is not a problem if you finish off in Photoshop, but it would be good to know if it will be added to LR CC at some point. The irony is that if you have the photography plan you get two great options for printing (Classic or PS), whereas with the Lightroom CC plan you get none.

Decision time - Lightroom and Photoshop

I've been running Classic and CC in parallel for a month or two, and think it's time to come down on one side or the other (I'm getting too confused!). I work mosly on a laptop, so prefer not to have the external hard drive that holds my photo library connected unless I need to bring...

Lightroom Classic to Photoshop CC for editing - menus greyed out

I think the bug first appeared in v2.0.1. Ticking Disable the Home Screen in in PS CC's Peferences/General tab is another workaround. I'd be surprised if this wasn't fixed in the next Photoshop update, but then life's full of surprises.
