Some originals being stored locally but setting is not to store originals locally

Thanks very much Jim, that makes sense. What doesn't makes sense (but doesn't matter greatly) is why these particular photos should be the ones in this situation.

Some originals being stored locally but setting is not to store originals locally

The Local Storage preference settings on my iMac is as attached. Local storage of Originals is unchecked. Note that the location for local storage is shown as an external drive called "Photos" which is unsurprisingly greyed out. But if I look at "Photos", there is a folder called "Lightroom...

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

UPDATE. I have now switched plans from 1TB Photography to 1TB Cloudy. Unlike when I last changed plan, there is now a switch plan option, it wasn't a cancel and re-purchase. This was extremely painless, quick and easy, even though it was a downgrade. And I will get a small refund. This may...

Thanks again. All very useful! Look forward to anything more you find out.

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

Thanks very much again! That sounds like you can have two plans on the same Adobe ID....is that really possible? If so, then certainly a 1TB Cloudy Plan (five seats), plus a 20GB Photography Plan (two seats) would be a better way of spending £20 pm than a single 1TB Photography Plan (two...

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

Thanks again Victoria. Can you confirm that if I switch from Photography to Cloudy I will still be able import to Classic but not edit (and probably other things). Can I organise? Ie create new folders and move photos around? Last year I started on the 20GB Photography, then went 1TB Cloudy...

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

Thanks Victoria ! Presumably done because of the upcoming availability on the Apple Store. The change to five adds a new dimension. I asked here recently about licensing three computers. This is probably enough to make me switch from the1TB Photography Plan to the Lightroom Cloudy plan. But...

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

FWIW the 9to5 Mac review (Lightroom for the Mac App Store is now available - 9to5Mac) included this comment: “Customers can still use Lightroom through Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite with the same subscription rate, or enjoy the benefits of the Mac App Store for managing updates and easier...

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

Yes that is the key question! Most apps available from both the Mac App Store and the Developer are updated separately (Apple Store usually later), so I think Lightroom would be an exception, but maybe not unique. The other question is that apps from the App Store can be used on five devices...

Switching to Lightroom from Adobe Store to Apple Store....worth doing?

Now that Lightroom is available from the Apple Store is there any reason to switch from Adobe store to Apple Store? The price is the same so the considerations are probably around updates? Presumably updates will come from the Apple store, so maybe no need to have the always running Creative...

Lightroom CC on a third Computer ?

I have the 1TB Photography Plan (LRCC, PS, Classic, 1TB) which allows me to activate two computers at the same time. I currently have my two Macs activated but would like to also activate on a Windows laptop. The choice seems to be: 1. Buy a license for a third computer....can't see any info...

Force iPad to download Smart Previews?

An extension to this idea is to create an album called "All Photos" and click the store locally option for that. I have 75,000 photos and the smart previews use about 120GB. If you make this All Photos album the auto-import album it will stay up to date. Learned that tip on this great forum.

Size of Files exported from LRCC

Thanks for the explanation Jim, I agree the reduced size is not much of a concern in practice, though I would be happier if LRCC iOS used the same as LRCC Desktop. Difficult to see a reason for this either, since almost by definition, 'exporting' implies the file is going to be used on another...

Size of Files exported from LRCC

Just discovered that the export from Apple Photos was only 13.6MB if the photo was unedited. If edited, the export was 7.6MB. This implies another compression step, and that maybe LRCC also does another compression before export, unless "export original" is being used. Doesn't explain why the...

Size of Files exported from LRCC

Arising from another thread I did some tests, exporting an image from LRCC on my Mac and then on my iPhone with some puzzling results: Starting point: 5472 x 3648 px JPEG file downloaded to desktop with Finder via a card reader 13.6MB Imported the above into LRCC. File exported as "maximum...

Move LRCC Library to external with symlink in ~/Pictures?

Thanks Victoria. Yes I can see disconnection would be a risk. My external is strapped to the back of the iMac stand and I treat it like an internal, but obviously more at risk of disconnection than the internal. I will see how I go....one bad event might be enough to put it back on the internal...

Move LRCC Library to external with symlink in ~/Pictures?

Thanks Cletus, I am not seeing a pictograph under the histogram. Also what is the EHD?

Move LRCC Library to external with symlink in ~/Pictures?

Smart Previews now downloaded and the LRCC Library on the external is now 83GB as expected. All seems to be working well. The external is an SSD so seems plenty fast enough. Is there anything which could be a problem that I would not be aware of? Thanks

Move LRCC Library to external with symlink in ~/Pictures?

Seems to be working....I have turned on Store Smart Previews locally, which I couldn't do before (c80Gb) and they are downloading.

Since posting the above I found this thread which seems to confirm it works.

Move LRCC Library to external with symlink in ~/Pictures?

The LRCC library has to be in ~/Pictures, but I saw a comment about using a symlink to another location....does this work? My 2017 iMac only has a 256GB internal and I would do this if it works....to a local external, not a network location Thanks

Question about size of Smart Previews... vary according to machine?

Thanks very much. I think the mystery has just been solved as Finder on the MBP has just caught up and is now showing the LRCC library as 87GB, consistent with the iMac. It is a pity Adobe don't let us have the LRCC library anywhere except ~/Pictures.

Question about size of Smart Previews... vary according to machine?

I have two Macs, a 13" MBP and a 27" iMac. My LRCC library holds 75,000 photos and uses 560GB on the Adobe cloud. The MBP is set to keep smart previews locally and the size of the LRCC library in ~/Pictures is 38GB. The iMac is only 256GB internal drive and so far I have not kept smart...

LRCC is putting originals in Library not the external drive I have specified

I left it downloading overnight hoping it might move them to the specified location when the internal (256GB) drive became full, but it didn't. After 17439 it stopped because no more space. Next I created a new volume on the external I want the originals on and specified this as the originals...
