I'm considering switching from Classic to CC

I have been away from the hobby for almost a year now and I'm just returning after my daughter became interested in cosplay and we have attended our first two cons. My "old" Lightroom Classic catalog is a mess with different folder names, color tags I no longer remember, and a really messed up...

    Duplicate Smart Collections in LR5.3

Thanks Hal, I deleted the ones with the "1" and they didn't return after I exited and restarted LR. Not sure why I didn't think of that first. I also created a test collection and it didn't duplicate. I'll keep and eye on this.

    Duplicate Smart Collections in LR5.3

I haven't been using Lightroom for awhile and over the weekend I discovered my catalog and photos were completely disorganized. I decided to start over, I don't have a lot of photos currently. I moved my photos to a different HD and deleted my old LR5 catalog. After creating a new catalog, I am...

    Returning with New Username

Hi all, I signed up last year with the username badfrog88. I only made a couple of posts. Real life took me away from the hobby, but I've promised myself that I would be more active this year. I use LR3 almost exclusive for my post processing and it is my cataloging software of choice. I...

    Greetings from West Texas

I'm a recent member to this group having just purchased LR3. I'm returning to photography, as a hobby, after quite a few years. For the last 1' years, I've been doing mostly snapshots of the family sharing a P&S camera with my wife. I finally decided to get serious again and bought a Nikon D9'...

New to Lightroom: Question about Catalog and Photo Storage

OK, I understand now. I may give that a try at a later date. For now, I've decided to put my photographs on an external HD and leave everything else in the default location. I really appreciate everyone's help. Kent

New to Lightroom: Question about Catalog and Photo Storage

I never thought about using my dropbox account. I am concerned about the previews in the catalog quickly using up my alloted space.

New to Lightroom: Question about Catalog and Photo Storage

I do have a home network, correct. I also have a NAS (a WD MyBook World Edition 1TB) I didn't mention it previously as my understanding was that LR wouldn't work with NAS. Is it only the catalog that can't be on a NAS? If I can store my photos on the NAS this is what I would do.

New to Lightroom: Question about Catalog and Photo Storage

Thanks for the replies everyone. Let me add some additional information along with another option for opinions: Both of my external drives are USB2.'. None of the computers in our home are desktop (at the moment). My wife has a MBP, my daughter has another Windows machine. At this time, I'm not...

New to Lightroom: Question about Catalog and Photo Storage

Hi all, I'm a new Lightroom user and just received my copy of LR3 from Adobe two days ago. I've been watching video tutorials I've found on the web to help me get started. Most seem to encourage the storage of the photographs on an external HD along with the catalog, while others store the...
