• Welcome to the Lightroom Queen Forums! We're a friendly bunch, so please feel free to register and join in the conversation. If you're not familiar with forums, you'll find step by step instructions on how to post your first thread under Help at the bottom of the page. You're also welcome to download our free Lightroom Quick Start eBooks and explore our other FAQ resources.
  • The May 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. There's a brand new slider called Texture, available across the whole family of apps. Lightroom Classic includes a new tool called Flat Field Correction. Lightroom (cloud-based service) has lots of big improvements including cloud trash, invitation-only web galleries, improved chromatic aberration removal and more. The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes. You'll also notice the CC's have disappeared off the end of the names, so we've updated the forum names to match.

    Is Lightroom Classic end-of-life?

When my LR6 perpetual no longer works with my OS or a new camera can't be recognized any longer -- so long Adobe. I will not pay "perpetual" monthly fees for it.

    lightroom has stopped working message

Man, I love this site. I was having the same issues as the OP. I tried a fix from Victoria's book, ....Lightroom 5...the missing FAQ, and it worked for a short time. Today I was getting the "stopped working" message every time I would try to make a Develop adjustment. Came here looking for...

Filmstrip and grid view do not match

I have LR 6.4 (desktop version). For the first time this morning I experienced the same issue as Brent. I would be on an image in grid view and click an image in the filmstrip and the picture in the grid would remain. The reverse occurred, too, click on an image in the filmstrip and the...

    Single Keyword Search

Thanks Jim. Johan actually gave me an idea. Many of my pictures have various keywords beyond the "root' keyword. However, all of my keywords have a hierarchy. The hierarchy's parent keyword is Person, Place, Thing, etc. My "root" keyword falls under Place. All of my others, thus far, can...

    Single Keyword Search

I'm sure there is a simple answer but it escapes me. I recently did an import in which, upon import, all photos were given a keyword to represent the session. As I have been going through the photos I have added keywords to some photos but all still contain the original root keyword. Is...

Backup to XHD - what files?

Thanks Johan! I got it all saved to the new XHD.

Backup to XHD - what files?

My current set up has LR5 on my internal (C:) hard drive. When I import images they are not saved to the internal drive but rather an external HD (K:) in folders named for the date taken. Also, during the import I have a second copy saved to a second external HD (L:). The K: HD also backs up...

    Purple Label

Thanks to both of you. What I thought was the toolbar turned out to be a filter at the bottom. The toolbar was disengaged.

    Purple Label

I know this is going to be a quick answer but after searching this forum and a couple of LR books I haven't found one. I know that the yellow, red, green and blue labels can be assigned and unassigned with the keyboard keys 6-9. Purple is not assignable via a shortcut. So, once I assign...

Importing as Second Copy - Naming Convention

Thanks everyone. No idea how in the past I was able to save to both EHDs with the same naming convention but not anymore.

Importing as Second Copy - Naming Convention

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere. I did a search on this forum and after combing through 15 pages of topics decided to ask. I even Googled and didn't find an answer. I use 2 external hard drives for importing and storing photos. No photo files are kept on the internal HD where LR...

What's that tiny minus sign on the left of my keywords

When you click on an image the minus sign(s) that appears to the left of the keyword(s) indicate that the keyword is associated with that image. It may be several individual words within the list that are on a standalone basis or part of a hierarchy. For example I may have a picture of a...

LR 5.5 very slow in Library rendering and Develop module adjustments.

Ollie sorry to hear the engineers haven't responded. For the life of me I don't know why but since I changed the screen from rolling pictures I have not had any issues. I wish you luck in getting a solution soon! Michael

LR 5.5 very slow in Library rendering and Develop module adjustments.

I'm back with some information that may or may not be of any help to any with Win 8.0 or 8.1. It sure made a difference in my system this evening. Ollie I don't know if you may have the same setup I have in Win 7 but you might. And, I can't guaranty that tomorrow I won't have issues again...

LR 5.5 very slow in Library rendering and Develop module adjustments.

Ollie you are not alone. After posting that the upgrade appeared to speed up my system I am now back to watching it boot up and literally watch the panels build slowly. Win 8.1 has a bunch of apps loaded but when I look at task manager none of it is running EXCEPT my Norton AV. I never had...

LR 5.5 very slow in Library rendering and Develop module adjustments.

I said in my last post I would post a follow up to see if moving the preferences file still works. I can't complain everything seems to be fine. The start up is not instantaneous like it was right after moving the preferences file but it isn't a "watch it build panels" speed anymore, either. I...

LR 5.5 very slow in Library rendering and Develop module adjustments.

Jim: Last night after my vent - my apologies by the way LR was just getting frustrating - I pulled out Ms. Bampton's book Lightroom 5 the missing FAQ and turned to the Troubleshooting section. On page 474 I found the section about what you mention here - removing the Preferences file. I...

LR 5.5 very slow in Library rendering and Develop module adjustments.

Just here to vent. I reported sluggish response a few weeks back under another post. Several months back main system crashed and went from Win 7 to Win 8.1. Personally, I would toss 8.1 out the window (no pun intended). I installed LR 3.6 on the new system and it worked as before -...

    Speed issues with LR 5.3

Tony: Thanks! I'm not a computer whiz but I can give you what I see. My internal HD is 2TB and 1.72TB are free. First external HD, which has files from previous computer and now backs up ALL files of my internal HD is 3TB and is 1.69TB free. This is the HD that LR references when...

    Speed issues with LR 5.3

I went from LR 3.6 to LR 5.3 not too long ago when my old system crashed. My old OS was Windows 7, the new OS is Win 8.1. I keep LR on my system's internal HD but all images are downloaded to an external HD and a second external HD backs up only images from the first. Long story short, I...

    How do I re-install LR5 after a HD crash?

Not much help there. I register all my products when I purchase them. I did as Hal instructed and the only thing they have record of is PS Elements from 2010. They don't have my LR3, which I purchased as a disk (have the disk/case in front of me) and registered as part of the upload process...

    How do I re-install LR5 after a HD crash?

I have the exact same problem as Steve except in reverse on the SNs. I have my LR3 serial number. Dummy me had saved the email containing my LR5 download SN but did not record it elsewhere. With the HD crash so crashed my emails. How do I load it without the SN? Luckily, I only had LR and...

Please send screenshots of folder structure

Allan: Stick around this site and you will pick up lots of helpful guidance. Both Jim and Tony have helped on issues I've had in the past including file folder layout. I use Jim's method, parent is the YYYY, but the sub folders are simply YYYYMMDD and not split into individual sub folder...
