  • The May 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. There's a brand new slider called Texture, available across the whole family of apps. Lightroom Classic includes a new tool called Flat Field Correction. Lightroom (cloud-based service) has lots of big improvements including cloud trash, invitation-only web galleries, improved chromatic aberration removal and more. The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes. You'll also notice the CC's have disappeared off the end of the names, so we've updated the forum names to match.

In camera blanking out a grey sky

Thanks for that but it was the 'in-camera' settings I was trying to find. I have, after a bit of web searching, found that the zebra (stripes)/highlighting setting is not available on my model, it was added in the next generation! https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00077788...

In camera blanking out a grey sky

Well I tried several ways to produce this effect but without success, anything I tried overexposed the non-sky parts of the picture. Nay suggestions welcome!

I think I will have to experiment. Thanks again

In camera blanking out a grey sky

Thanks for your input. Ah I see, yes I did not understand it. Won't that have the tendency blow out the rest of the image? Obviously not to white, as the areas will not be as bright as the sky, but definitely overexposed. I guess if the image is recorded as RAW it can be brought back, is...

In camera blanking out a grey sky

Thanks. The neat part was that the remainder of the scene seemed to have a 'normal' exposure. I have checked my Camera and there are no clipping settings, so it looks like if I want to try it it will have to be in LR or PS.

Thanks very much. Lots of grey sky about now so I will try it today!

In camera blanking out a grey sky

I was watching a professional photograher taking several outdoor pictures under a grey sky, full cloud cover. I think he was using a Canon 7D. He showed me its Monitor image and I remarked that it was showing the sky as black. He was using a setting in his camera that deliberately blacked out...

Lightroom 6.3, folder and photo location

Thanks Victoria. The files have not been moved so I will hold you to 'an easy fix' ! Peter

Lightroom 6.3, folder and photo location

I am an occasional amateur user of LR so I am not interested in the subscription products. However, in error, I loaded LR CC trial version which seemed to overwrite LR 6 and I have had to reinstall it. On opening LR 6 all my folders and photo files appear to be listed but their true location...

    Background processes

Linwood thanks again your advice. On this side of the pond we have the same joke, "buying Tower Bridge". Two nations separated by a common language! I had already turned off the update switch in Acrobat 8 and the process suggested in your last link seems torture, an uninstal should be just...

    Background processes

Thanks for replies everyone. Answering points raised. Cletus: There are two Adobe exe services using more than 50% of the CPU, but no Adobe program is being run. I also thought there could be an obstruction in the cooling channels but I don't relish taking it apart, it is thin and flimsy! It is...

    Background processes

Thanks for your reply. I have tried several reboots after making changes including the disabling both the Adobe services shown at the top of the screenshot. No better, they keep coming back !!! Do you mean all Adobe products, it's a very long list !!

    Background processes

About a week ago my Win10 laptop fan started to constantly run. I thought it was a program downloading/updating, or something similar but now, a week later it is still whirring away. I started investigating and it looks like it could be due to Adobe updating processes costantly running. Please...

    Unwanted external editors

Thanks everyone. Yes a bit clumsy, the delete option only appears after selecting an external editor. I guess it saves designing addditional popup windows. As an aside I seem to think LR 6.3 opens a lot faster than its predeccessors. pnb

    Unwanted external editors

I have the same problem but 'Clear' does not remove them, just adds (Edited) to their name. Even tried closing and opening LR after, still no joy? Thanks

    Lightroom 6.1 crashes

Thanks for quick reply. I have had problems with a GPU update before and had to backtrack for stability so your answer seems very possible. Graphics Processor Info: GeForce GTX 860M/PCIe/SSE2 Check OpenGL support: Passed Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 355.60 Renderer...

    Lightroom 6.1 crashes

Win10, LR 6.1. 64 bit. Does LR automatically create a crash report? I had a series of program crashes that brought up a popup requesting LR to be closed. It happened when moving from Catalog to Develop and I wondered if had been recorded somewhere. I was about to post this as unresolved...

Thanks Dave. I have downloaded it and exploring it now! Very different from PSE! Peter

My trial period for PSE has now finished and even though I would like to keep in the Photoshop family I don't want to buy a product that makes it harder than necessary to use. Any suggestions please? Thanks

Thanks for your reply. My laptop is 14" Diagonal. LR displays fine, the menu text is not too small but PSE choices are, as I said too large or too small. None of my other software has a problem. Not that it will make much difference but I have moved from Win 8.1 to 10, but it isn't a choice yet...

I downloaded PS Elements 13 to use with LR but I find the menu font sizes either too small to see or way too big. It seems a common problem for high res screens, mine is a 1920x1080 laptop. I believe full Photoshop has the same problem. If that is the case can someone please recommend another...

    Files folders catalogues and backups.

Thanks Jim for your reply. Re #2. Yes that switch did exactly what I wanted, the count and content is now as per each folder. Re #3. Yes I see. I thought I had chosen the Network drive for LRs working files as well as the backups. Still so much to learn !!

    Files folders catalogues and backups.

OK after a little Googling I have found some answers. 1. Renaming can be done in the Library as well as the Import and Exporting modules, all using the Template Editor. 2. Windows also includes the sub-folders in its count of files, but it doesn't 'show' them, so why does LR? 3. Still don't...

    Files folders catalogues and backups.

Hi, I am new to LR and this is my first post here so please excuse any silly questions! I have read Lightroom Queen's ebook guide which was a good starter and have picked up the basics but I am still struggling to match it to my setup. Just to set the scene I keep my photos on a NAS RAID1 drive...
