  • The May 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. There's a brand new slider called Texture, available across the whole family of apps. Lightroom Classic includes a new tool called Flat Field Correction. Lightroom (cloud-based service) has lots of big improvements including cloud trash, invitation-only web galleries, improved chromatic aberration removal and more. The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes. You'll also notice the CC's have disappeared off the end of the names, so we've updated the forum names to match.

    Advice on getting new hardware

Thanks, for your comments. To say that I'm most used to Mac is probably an understatement ... I've been using them since 1986, next up is unix/linux for about the same time (but not as often) and on the third place ... far behind the other two is Windows (although I wrote Windows programs for...

    Advice on getting new hardware

Yep, same as me ,,, this works very nicely. If you wander about why I'm not using my laptop instead of the mini it's because it's my work machine and they think that I should use it for work related stuff instead of photography ... silly ideas they have. But I actually prefer editing on the...

    Advice on getting new hardware

My experience from this is using the previous iPad Pro model. My setup is iPhone & iPad + MB Pro 2017 + Mini ... oldish 2013? 2014? Mini is the photo machine - running LR Classic, laptop runs LR CC same thing with iPhone/iPad. Workflow (quick description) is to import on any device which means...

    Advice on getting new hardware

Hi, I need some advice on buying a new computer, or at least planning for buying a new computer. Currently I’m using an older Mac Mini that is solely set up for use with my photography (just a hobby). I'm using Lightroom Classic (together with the iOS CC versions) and unfortunately the computers...

    What is "slow"?

Thanks, I'll check. The backup part is OK - same people consider me paranoid :D

    What is "slow"?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I've optimized the catalog with no improvement. I've also checked the internal disk using the builtin Disk Utility program but it doesn't find any problems. Hmmmm ...

    What is "slow"?

The last month or two Lightroom has started to become too slow for my taste ... but is it slow or is it me? Two examples: I'm viewing a folder and try to scroll the thumbnails, I then have to wait 5-10 seconds (or more) before any scrolling happen. This doesn't happen every time but perhaps 50%...

Export to folder hierarchy by date

I want to do a favor for some family member and export 5-6000 photos into a folder hierarchy by date. So I want the output files in a hierarchy like this: |-2016 |-----11 |---------05 |---------06 |---------07 |-----12 |---------15 I can't figure out how to do this. Can anyone tell me how to...

Creating smart collection that refers to a specific static collection

Ahh, I'll probably use your idea for identification but with a different implementation (for various reasons)

Creating smart collection that refers to a specific static collection

Sorry about not using the proper terminology, with "path" I meant the "path" you travel through the collection sets from the "root" to a specific collection. Too bad that there is no way the specify a specific collection in a hierarchy. I need to figure out a sensible way to name my...

Creating smart collection that refers to a specific static collection

I'm trying to be a good boy and clean up my lightroom catalog a bit. One of the things is to add all interesting photos to a collection ... this worked just fine but when I was going to use these collections for publishing a stumbled across a problem. I've set up the collections in an...

    Publish collections

Thanks, I'm playing with this now to see how it works for me.

    Publish collections

Hmmm, as you can see above I have this collection hierarchy (I'm still playing so there are not many collections at the moment), in addition I have other collections for specific events. Some photos may show up in several collections. Based on your description I guess that you use date and...

    Publish collections

    Hmmm, I quickly played with this and I have a question: I have a collection hierarchy like this Photos | +-- 2014 | | | +- 01 | | | | | +- 2014-01 Misc photos | | +- 2014-01-12 Party | | +- 2014-01-23 Celebration | +- 02 | | | | | +- 2014-02...

    Publish collections

Thanks for the explanation. I found it strange that I'm not able to "reuse" one collection for different publish services. I'll have to slightly rethink how I'm using collections.

    Publish collections

I'm new to Lightroom and trying to learn the best way to use it - and I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question since I must be missing something obvious. Right now I store the actual files in date-based hierarchy, then I've started to create collections for the actual photos that I want to...

    Recommended plugins/developers??

I have to admit that I'm using Flickr, Smugmug, WordPress and JAlbum ... for different purposes, they all have their strength and weaknesses and it's difficult to say which one is best. I've also played a bit with PicasaWeb/Google+ Photos/Google Photos ... and I like PicasaWeb the best (despite...

    Recommended plugins/developers??

Hi, I'm new to Lightroom and after having used the program for some time I'm now looking to extend it in a few ways. I've looked around a bit, found different plugins from different companies and now I'm trying to figure out what reputation different companies/persons have. One I've found and...

Multiple languages, controlling what metadata that get exported where

Thanks for the idea! Right now I'm trying all kind of things, trying not to get influenced by experiences from other programs I've used.

Multiple languages, controlling what metadata that get exported where

Thanks for the idea, for some reason I've always thought that Lightroom can't be scripted ... hmm, Lua - I haven't looked at that language for at least 10 years but it was quite simple if I remember correctly. Once again, thanks for the idea - I'm going to take a look at this.

Multiple languages, controlling what metadata that get exported where

First: I'm fairly new to Lightroom so I might be missing something obvious. I'm moving my photos into Lightroom, before actually starting to do this I looked at "Organizing your photos with Lightroom 5" by Peter Krogh to figure out how to best manage my photos. And I'm basically doing what he...

    Entering metadata on a laptop/iPad/iPhone???

Thanks for the tip about PhotoSmith, it does look it's what I'm looking for ... the only worrisome thing is that the company haven't made much noise since first half of 2014. I do hope that Adobe releases a version that includes metadata editing - to it feels strange that this isn't available...

    Entering metadata on a laptop/iPad/iPhone???

Hi, I'm pretty new to Lightroom and I'm currently moving stuff into it. My setup is that I have Lightroom installed on a desktop Mac with the photos on an external disk. Everything works nicely but I have a question: while it's nice to edit photos on the desktop with its large screen I find...
