• Welcome to the Lightroom Queen Forums! We're a friendly bunch, so please feel free to register and join in the conversation. If you're not familiar with forums, you'll find step by step instructions on how to post your first thread under Help at the bottom of the page. You're also welcome to download our free Lightroom Quick Start eBooks and explore our other FAQ resources.
  • The May 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. There's a brand new slider called Texture, available across the whole family of apps. Lightroom Classic includes a new tool called Flat Field Correction. Lightroom (cloud-based service) has lots of big improvements including cloud trash, invitation-only web galleries, improved chromatic aberration removal and more. The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes. You'll also notice the CC's have disappeared off the end of the names, so we've updated the forum names to match.

how to place a new preset in the "sharpening" group?

I recall this being the reason that I created my own user preset structure. From the default presets I copied the standard presets that I used regularly into my defined preset group and added my own created presets. I then collapsed the standard presets

    Exporting and overwriting source files

Lightroom was designed with a specific mission to be a non destructive editor. Destructive editing has been recognized as a design flaw in pixel editing image editors like Photoshop. Saving in Photoshop has been improved to make it difficult but not impossible to overwrite the original source...

    Where are My "Develop" Settings?

The last develop settings CAN be in the header of a DNG file or a JPG file BUT only if you expressly tell LR to write the metadata there. Have you made a search for all files with a *.lrcat extension. Unless you made the effort to delete these yourself using Windows explorer, then they are...

LR Classic 8.2.1 Crashes all the time

No, You do not need to create a new catalog as the current catalog is not overly large. In fact, I don't see any reason from what you have posted for you to be having a problem. You can delete the Smart Previews if you are not using them and not create new ones. It does not sound like your...

    $50 K medium format camera

Your earlier suggestion to try one out is the next step on my agenda. I did this with the X-E3 too, but while it seemed easy in the shop, once I got it home a more thorough run through pointed out the deficiencies of the touch screen controls.

History - will it come to cc?

I would guess that it is in Adobe's plan to replace Classic at some point with Lightroom CC. All of the Classic functionality will need to be in place before this can happen.

    $50 K medium format camera

We digress, but on the D810 I can choose the (M)anual mode and quickly set an ISO then adjust the Shutterspeed or the Aperture and get a correctly exposed image. I can quickly set the EV and repeat with a +/- EV exposure. I can change the ISO and repeat the process. If I want an f/16 for...

    $50 K medium format camera

I'm trying to justify selling my FujiFilm X-E3 and all of the lenses that I bought to go mirrorless and replace them with a Z7 and an adapter for all of my F mount lenses that I use with my preferred D810. The learning curve coming from Nikon to the FujiFilm mirrorless has proved too steep to...

LR Classic 8.2.1 Crashes all the time

As Roeloff has suggested, the problem in develop is likely related to the Windows GPU driver. Either it is not up to date from the GPU mfg. or the hardware is not compatible with LR. The GPU is used to supplement the CPU by providing an additional computational core for certain LR Develop...

NEF files not converted to DNG - there was an unexpected end of file error

The card reader built into the iMac is still a piece of hardware that can go bad. So the possibility of a bad reader is never irrelevant.

NEF files not converted to DNG - there was an unexpected end of file error

A Message like this usually suggests a problem reading the file on the source device. This could mean a bad card, a bad card reader or the cable connecting them. Let's hope that it is one of the latter. Try using another card reader or first try copying the contents from the card to the Disk...

    $50 K medium format camera

The 100MP IQ3 is supported by ACR. So, I expect the IQ4 will get support in due time.

Upon opening catalog obtained from different folder than to which it is saved

Actually Lightroom opens the master catalog file and continuously saves back to that open catalog file. When you exit Lightroom, It does not "Save" the work that you did because it has already done so in the background. When you exit, based upon your preferences, Lightroom makes a backup...

    ARW sony files

I thought "sony a7ii" might be "A7 II (ILCE-A7M2)" But it should not generate a failure to import. It could have been an imprecise reference to A7R II (ILCE-7RM2) or "A7S II (ILCE-7SM2)" All of which are supported by some version of LR6.x and it is not clear which version of LR6 rugg007...

    ARW sony files

Your Sony Version does not match any on the Supported list Cameras supported by Camera Raw You need to be more specific on the Sony model. Probably your camera was released after the version of LR 6 that you have installed. LR6.14 is as far as you can go to get support with a perpetual...

    Advice on getting new hardware

I made the transition about 10 years ago. There is a learning curve. Not because the Mac is more difficult but simply because the toolset is different. I think having experience in a Unix / LINUX environment, makes the transition easier. I am still comfortable working in a Windows...

Export Importing Nikon D810 raw files into Lightroom Classic CC.

We are here to help. I too am a recent widower. And the D810 is my primary camera. I shoot RAW, so here is where I will start. If you are not comfortable shooting RAW, I'd suggest setting the camera on RAW + JPEG until you get comfortable processing RAW. I recommend always using a Card...

    Advice on getting new hardware

I seen many years as a developer writing Windows applications. I think I know (knew?) Windows inside and out. I also ran Linux and my preferred end user version was Ubuntu. Although I never had a problem that caused me to erase the HD and start over, I spent a lot of time tuning the OS to...

How come I can search on "Publish" and get results but not "Export" Is it possible that the criteria is matching another field and not History?

View only images that have been exported

In the All Photographs special collection, do you get all of the exported images if you do a Text filter on any searchable fields that contain the word "Export"? Or do you search some other way? My text search filter returns no images even though I have many that have "Export - Hard Drive..."...
