    Hi from North Wales

Welcome to the Lr forums. I am on my phone so no handy link. But I would suggest starting with Victoria's free intro book. She usually has a link on the menu above somewhere. Sent from my SM-J737T using Tapatalk

A Strategy Poll For Major Catalog and Image File Cleanup

I differ a bit from the others here. I would do some organization as part on the transfer. For each catalog I would open on the old computer, select all images and choose export catalog with images. Save this to you backup drive and do it for each catalog. This will give you a great starting...

Migrating to CC - but what subcription?

iDrive, the cloud. I no longer keep a true local backup. I have a single local copy via OneDrive on another computer. The "worst case" scenario is I lose a few days downloading, most common scenario is I download the few files I need on my just under gigabit connection.

    Reorgansing My Files

Have you ever searched for an image that was in a folder structure organized by date? Hmm, I want the Disney trip roughly in 2008..... Or the family reunion in TN.... Note: I do not have a good answer, I am just asking the question.

Migrating to CC - but what subcription?

I just changed backup software. The first full backup has been running for four days so far. But then I have 3TB of data to backup. I forgot how painful this is gonna be.

    Reorgansing My Files

For those advocating date based folder structures, have you consider generational issues? We have started to discuss scanning images in and trying to document as much as possible from my grandmother who is 101. The goal being to pass on some history. When considering this aspect, do you plan...

    Reorgansing My Files

You have IPTC fields already for location information. I never saw the reason so many people duplicate it into keywords. I can see the point for stock photographers, but the rest of us? Never did see the reason.

No. Absolutely wrong. If it is not done the way I said it is wrong. I am not sure what i said, but I know it is right! Tim (could not resist)

best way to deal with large backlog of unprocessed photos

I split my prospective keyword list into three groups. 1. Process related, e.g. culled, no people (part of my facial recognition flow). 2. Questions I received, e.g. do you have an image of X? 3. Images I am interested in. For 2, it was a case if thinking hiw do I find image X based on what...

    Blurb: Your Thoughts?

Just to clarify, I only print one or two versions of a book. So I never had the opportunity, or requirement to tune the output the way John B. did.

    Blurb: Your Thoughts?

I thought Blurb sucked compared to Mixbook, and even Shutterfly in terms of quality. I will admit, Blurb was easier to use. It has also been three years since I last printed a book. My family has switched to digital frames.

Map module Map view will be discontinued on this version of Lightroom

Be careful, Digikam is a destructive editor. The map module does work.

Map module Map view will be discontinued on this version of Lightroom

@clee01l Cletus, Interesting point on the integration. That was one of the major reasons I have stuck with Adobe. I probably leverage 10-20% of the post processing development capabilities, however I make extensive use of other parts of the ecosystem. I found the ramp up time to get to the...

New Quick Link in Windows Explorer (how do you remove)

When I tried previously, that did not remove it from the Explorer Tree view on the left.

New Quick Link in Windows Explorer (how do you remove)

For those willing, if you use regedit. You can remove it from Explorer, but it does not shutdown the service. Here is my key: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0E270DAA-1BE6-48F2-AC49-050C4405A29E} I found it by searching for "System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree" When you find one with a label of...

    What is "slow"?

If it happens infrequently, I would suspect Apple's power saving settings. I have not had a Mac Mini in years, however Apple used to be very aggressive on shutting down the hard disks, and slowing the CPU. Before you dig to much in Lr, I would do the easy step of turning off power saving modes...

Map module Elimination of Map function in desktop versions of Lightroom.

Yes it exists in the latest versions. Adobe during one of the 7.X releases updated to the new Google API.

Map module Elimination of Map function in desktop versions of Lightroom.

@photomod Here are your choices: 1. Use a 6.X version of Adobe Lr without the map module. Google removed support of the API which Adobe used in the earlier released map modules. 2. Join the subscription model of Adobe Lr. 3. Try a third party add-on like Jeffrey's "Geoencoding Support"...

    Facial Recognition

@solexcire Do you have a list of of the keywords your engine finds? And also what is the false positive rates? And how does the keyword transfer work exactly? Your website mentions they are under their own hierarchy, but is kinda vague. For another personal project, I found it would be neat to...

Library module Is LR performance impacted by number of keywords, or complexity of keyword hierarchy?

@PhilBurton I think we are talking past each other. My point is more fundamental, why do you use keywords? To find stuff, correct? If keywords are to find things, you care about only one thing: the accuracy (both missing and false positives). Human nature, and even AI capability at this point...

Library module Is LR performance impacted by number of keywords, or complexity of keyword hierarchy?

Why do you care if it integrates? As long as it is under its own root element, so it does not "pollute" your main tree it should not matter. The only thing I would care about is if any solution had false positives, provided a complete list of possible items they recognize, and change lists on...

Library module Is LR performance impacted by number of keywords, or complexity of keyword hierarchy?

I would suspect that the vast majority of words in any predefined lexicon likely would require a lot of work to apply. In addition, since you likely do not know the lexicon, you will likely end up being rather haphazard in the application until you get it to the point where is is fully...
