Cloud storage info out of sync!

The cloud does not only contain the images, but all edits. Certain edits, like Generative Remove, AI Denoise, Superresolution, AI masks can be quite large. And what about video files? 'All Synced Photographs' list just that: photographs, not video.

    Confirming Catalog folder cleanup plans

When Lightroom Classic opens a catalog file, then the modification date of that file changes to today, even if you did not do anything else. The V-12 catalog file has a modification date in 2024.

    Iphone 16 not being seen

Please give more details. What do you mean with “not being seen by imac. Phone seen in finder”? That Lightroom Classic does not see it? Did you select the import dialog?

Help needed for the Blend If function in Layer Styles

AFAIK, an adjustment layer is treated as a copy of the underlying layer(s) with the adjustment applied to that, so that is how Blend If can use this. You can also use the underlying layer for blending the adjustment layer, so that is another way how it is often used.

Photos need DeNoise Only after Adaptive Color

Adaptive color creates invisible masks that are used to brighten parts of the image. That will increase the visibility of any noise. You would see the same if you used a traditional profile, and then manually brightened the image.

How to get camera to appear under Preferences > Presets > Camera menu

Yes, that is the trigger for Lightroom to show a camera: you need to have a raw image of that camera in the catalog.

    Masking

Try object selection. That is often (much) better than subject selection.

Lightroom Classic says Subfolders are missing

Right-click on the M: folder and choose ‘Hide this parent’. Restart Lightroom Classic. The fact that ‘Allens LR Photos’ shows zero photos is most likely because you have ‘Library - Show Photos in Subfolders’ unchecked.

    Metadata Bug (on Export)

I disagree that there is a bug. Lightroom does not automatically resolve metadata conflicts, period. That is what the ‘Read Metadata from file’ and ‘Save metadata to file’ menus are for. I’m glad it does not automatically do anything, because I frequently use this to my advantage with video...

    Metadata Bug (on Export)

So if I understand you correctly, you import the exported jpeg again and see no change in the metadata if you update them (in the raw file) and export the jpeg again and overwrite the old one? That is indeed as expected, not a bug. You will need to use ‘Read Metadata from File’ to update it for...

    Sony A7rv firmware update.

In my experience updating the firmware does not change custom settings.

    Import previews without vignette?

No, it can’t. I just import all images and cull later.

    Import from another Catalogue question

The only problem here is that this means you can probably no longer simply connect the laptop in target disk mode and then use 'Import from another catalog', because that would mean you'd import over a network connection and Lightroom Classic will probably refuse to do that. You will have to...

    Import from another Catalogue question

Mac’s have a ‘Target Disk’ mode. That makes the computer appear as an external hard disk on the connected Mac. With Intel Macs this was fast and easy. I didn’t know, but it is still possible with Apple Silicon Macs as well, though not as easy anymore...

Catalogs Backing Up Catalog Taking a Long Time?

I disagree. 7 minutes may be a bit long for such a catalog, but it is definitely not abnormal. It depends on how large the .lrcat-data is. If you regularly use AI Denoise or SuperResolution, then 7 minutes is perfectly normal. My 220,000 images catalog takes about 15 minutes to backup, but I do...

    Mystery Symbol

The folder that is missing contains zero images, so you can just remove it from Lightroom. Right-click on it and choose to remove it.

Catalogs Import from another catalogue problem

Are you sure you selected the catalog file (.lrcat)? Sometimes people mistake the catalog.lrcat-data for the catalog file.

    Mystery Symbol

It means that somewhere down in the folder hierarchy there is a missing folder. In your example that is clear, because it is shown.

CC App LRC screen appears onMonitor and mirrored on Mackbook Pro

I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re saying, but if you want to hide the secondary display, then that’s Cmd-F11, not F11. And if you want to hide Lightroom Classic completely while it is denoising, then Option (Alt) click on a window of another app (or the desktop).

    Cannot backup LR catalog

Yes, and changing the setting back to ‘Store Presets with this catalog’ should make them ‘found’ again.
  21. Johan Elzenga

    Cannot backup LR catalog

That shouldn’t happen. The only reason why this may seem to be the case, is if you use ‘Store Presets with this Catalog’ and that gets reset to storing the presets in the default location. Your presets won’t be deleted however, they should still be where they used to be.

    Unable to delete files

Yes, this is indeed a known problem in MacOS sometimes, but as this is a brand new disk and most disk are not pre-formatted in a Mac-specific format out of the box, that’s what I would check first.
  23. Johan Elzenga

    Unable to delete files

The new disk is most likely formatted in ExFAT, rather than a MacOS specific format.
  24. Johan Elzenga

    Cannot backup LR catalog

The biggest drawback is having publishing services. You’ll need to set them up again from scratch.

    Updating macOs

There are many ways to achieve the same goal. Rename is a way to save the old preferences as a backup, in case resetting doesn’t help solving the problem. You can also move the preference file to another location. Or use a backup from your regular backup system (like from Apple Time Machine).
