I personally don't bother replacing embedded previews, that will happen automatically when an image with embedded preview starts to be edited. But if it bothers you, you can have LrC automatically replace any embedded previews with Standard previews during idle time. Preferences>General Tab:
After doing that, you should be in Grid view with the Library filter open with "Keyword" in the 1st column. At the right hand side of the Keyword column header is a very small icon, clicking on that icon will reveal a menu with a few options. At the bottom of the list are the two View options...
Agreed. The only potential issue is if Cloud Syncing was being used with the current subscription. Anything previously synced from LrC TO the cloud may need to be first unsynced in LrC then resynced (though they may automatically be unsynced when LrC discovers that the new cloud account is...
I'm running those tasks on an Apple MacBook Pro with the M2 Max chip. It has "only" 12 cores - 8 x Performance cores, and 4 x Efficiency cores.
When running 1:1 preview generation, that largely depends on the Preferences>Performance tab setting for "Generate Previews in parallel". If that...
I started my IT career in 1968, operating several IBM 7010s and a new 360/40.
Back on topic, what exactly does "forever" mean, Cletus? I'm not seeing much of any difference when I back up my 20k image catalog. Both optimize and check integrity are always enabled (why not?) and the whole process...
I wouldn't have thought so. You might reasonably expect that the initial import of new images (being copied to the external drive) to be a little faster if using the Lacie, but after that I doubt you'd see any performance difference between the two drives. Once the images have been imported the...
The icon that you have highlighted is the Add Photos button. That floating blue bar contains 2 separate buttons: left is Add Photos, right is the camera button.
Yes. You can either use the camera function within Lightroom Mobile on all your iDevices (the photos would be automatically synced to your Adobe cloud account, and from there they would automatically download into your sync-enabled LrClassic catalog. If you prefer to use the native camera on the...
You get the apps on your laptop the same way that you got tghem on the desktop, i.e. on the laptop logon to your account at adobe.com and download the Creative Cloud desktop app. Once installed, login to it using the same Adobe credentials that you used on the desktop, then you can use tghe...
On the Lightroom desktop app, I believe that a new Auto version is created only when the user moves on to another image (which signifies that the user has probably finished editing for now). That is the same process as the syncing of the new edits, i.e. syncing of new edits starts when you move...
You misunderstand the purpose of that designated sync location folder. It's not a folder designated for syncing TO the cloud, instead it is the folder designated as the storage location for images synced FROM the cloud, i.e. any image that you add to the cloud from any of the Lightroom cloud...
Yes, that is correct. And if after doing that you switch sync back to Catalog A all the Catalog B images that you added to the cloud will download into Catalog A.
If you already have a Photography Plan subscription can we assume that you are running a desktop operating system, e.g. MacOS or Windows (part of the missing details that we ask you to provide so that we don't have to make assumptions which often turn out to be wrong)? If that assumption is...
Why do you need 2 separate catalogs to sync the same set of images? If it's for travel purposes, you could (should) consider usning the Lightroom Desktop app on the travel device instead of using Catalog B in LrClassic. That way you have access to all the images synced from Catalog A, and you...
You change the sync catalog simply by turning on sync in the new catalog (under the cloud icon top right of the screen), and accepting the resulting warning message:
If the new catalog is trying to sync, then it would seem that you've already turned sync on and accepted the resulting warning...
1) No, not unless you change the new catalog to be the synced catalog. Only one LrC catalog can be designated as the current synced catalog. Yes, you can switch the sync designation to the new catalog, but all the exiting cloud content will be downloaded into that new catalog. That may be a good...
There really isn't a "general consensus". To "XMP" or not is one of those DNG vs Raw, Apple vs Windows type of debates.....some users would never write to XMP, seeing it as totally needless, whereas many users would never consider not writing to XMP, seeing it as the ultimate last line of...
Nothing to do with catalog location in Catalog Settings. The error message suggests that the location specified for sync downloads in the LrC Preferences>Lightroom Sync tab is invalid (possibly/probably only the Users library is specified, which LrC cannot write to). Change it to a folder of...
You mention "local" several times in your post. Does that mean that you normally operate in Local mode on device A, but then copy xx images to the Cloud for subsequent work on device B, and you want any changes you make on device B to apply to the corresponding images when viewed again in Local...
That's because the new catalog upgrade process introduced with LrC14.0 no longer automatically changes the catalog name when it creates the upgraded catalog (the previous catalog is "archived" into an "Old Lightroom Catalogs" folder). However, LrC now offers a Catalog Rename function which...
"Missing" as in physically removed from the previous stored location on disk, or as in not showing up in the Plug-in Manager? If the latter, that would likely indicate a Preferences reset (either user-invoked or an LrC issue with the Preferences file which caused the Preferences file to be...
I don't think I ever said that the Smart Preview which is synced to the cloud is a different type of smart preview than the one generated by LrC for use within the Develop module, because they're not different. What I think the confusion was related to the fact that a Smart Preview generated by...
Your assumption would be wrong. The Lightroom Desktop app has the same option, although you first have to assign an album as the "target" (right-click on an album and choose "Set "album xxxx" as the Target Album), and the keyboard shortcut for adding images to the target album is "T", not "B".
