Disagree with Scott Kelby on folder names

Even if one successfully resolves those subject matters today, over time we will often change how we would categorize photos, and there's always going to be some conflict between subjectively-structured folders and the physical safeguarding of our photos. For example, a Scottish friend has...

LrC Catalog - Dust Off or Restart??

So what would be the first specific things you would want to be different? You're a little vague on specifics. I put these questions because I'd generally advise people to work from what they have, but use it more efficiently. So for example, start adding a few keywords to all new images from...

LrC Catalog - Dust Off or Restart??

Maybe explain your dissatisfaction with "the organizational style"? What are you talking about - folders, use of collections, keywords?

Disagree with Scott Kelby on folder names

Sure, the trouble is that physical storage of photos (ie folder structures) shouldn't be narrowed down to thinking about how you can find photos, which is where the discussion has been going. Of course, it's not at all unreasonable to build one's folder structure so it might help you find...

Disagree with Scott Kelby on folder names

I'd been wondering how I could nudge this discussion in that direction!

Disagree with Scott Kelby on folder names

Someone here may be listed as technical editor on that edition.... In fact I had pitched a similar book idea about the same time as Peter but my publisher didn't see a market - they didn't know that their US partner was picking up Peter's proposal. I'm sure he did a better job than I would have...

    Is LR Classic being discontinued?

No, there's no indication of that. You'll have to ask Fotomagico for more detail about whatever "precompiled 3rd-party function" they're talking about.

Disagree with Scott Kelby on folder names

Well, that's not quite right. There is no single best way, but there are some ways that are good - and some that are bad and should be discouraged. LR's default date-based system follows best practice and should therefore be recommended. It goes back to my old line: folders purely for...

Disagree with Scott Kelby on folder names

Scott's strengths are not in the area of DAM, Phil. A better guide is Peter Krogh's The DAM Book.

Holding Smart Previews on my Ipad so I have access to view my photos when offline.

I think you should see a "Mark as Solution" button on the right. I've set it. Sorry to your "everyone" for helping ;)

In that case, just create a new collection/album containing all the photos, and set it to Store Locally. So go to All Synced Photos in LrC, select everything, and add them all to the new "Stored Locally" collection. Every so often I wouild empty this collection and repopulate it.

    Blur Edit Advice!

Photoshop. The Motion Blur filter would do it. So in PS, select the area and use Filter > Blur > Motion Blur.

Click the three dots next to an album name and Store Locally is an option.

    Remove Tool question

Are you referring to the new (May 2023 release) Remove tool in the toolbar with the Spot Healing Brush and other healing tools? It's a more ambitious tool than LR's Content-aware Remove, but with LR and a bit of practice you can remove a surprising amount, and without the need to generate a...

    Scanner Questions for Lightoom Classic?

That's what I did too. Silverfast is still around, and this method worked better for me than scanning into PS where I always get distracted into editing a particularly-interesting photo rather than making progress with the scanning.

    Change

Sure, there are fewer ways, but it's still pretty easy with Cmd/Ctrl C and Cmd/Ctrl V in grid view. But at least Cloudy has no History, so it's harder to figure out what mistake you might have made anyway.

Normally my first recommendation here would be the LrMogrify plugin.

That’s Tim’s. I can help if your problem is about the reg code, but don’t know much about the plugin itself.

    Change

I agree with Cletus. People delete photos for all sorts of reasons, sometimes accidentally and sometimes deliberately, and I do find it strange that you even ask why they would be deleted. Changes.... Let's say you edit an image's noise reduction or sharpening, or add some masks, then you...

    Catalogs Stolen drive letter

I'm not at my Windows PC and am on 10 anyway, but connect the external drive and in Explorer go into the drive properties. Change the drive letter to one you want, J, and that should prevent any other drive from stealing it.

You would only do it once for each plugin.

location of plug-ins in LrC 13 (in Windows only?)

I really wouldn’t put the plugin folder anywhere near Program Files, Phil. It’s a special folder and the issues that John E listed re Modules might equally occur there. I don’t know why you are asking about ”any parameter“. All you need to do is click the Add button and then point to the...
