    Storage, backup and OneDrive

Yes, OneDrive is not a backup system. However, somehow Syncback Pro, which you mention, manages to configure part of OneDrive to act as their backup storage. It's quite distinct from the normal operation of OneDrive. I've been using it a long time quite successfully. This is good since I'm...

NVidea GEForce Graphics Firmware Update - Beware

True, and I am a bit geeky for a septuagenarian, but when the gurus here start talking of EXIF, file formats and bit depth, my eyes glaze over.

    Missing Canon lens combinations?

I use a 2x TC with an OMDS (Olympus) 300mm f4 a lot, so I checked for my combo also. It's not listed, in fact no Panasonic, Olympus nor OMDS lens is listed. I suspect it's due to the use of in-lens correction of the newer m4/3 lenses. is that correct? One wonders about older lenses. I'm sure...

Book module Best tutorial for LrC books

That's pretty well an offer I can't refuse now. Curiously, it was already in my shopping cart from some time back, so I hit the button. It's now in my Kindle.

Book module Best tutorial for LrC books

The books I'm thinking of will be essentially geological, a fairly simple layout but typically with a paragraph or two of family history on each image.

Book module Best tutorial for LrC books

Option 2, sounds good. After all, it's got to be via LrC or nothing. I definitely check out that link.

Book module Best tutorial for LrC books

No probs. Partly my fault. The title was, "Best tutorial for books". I then added "LrC" which may have made it ambiguous :)

Book module Best tutorial for LrC books

Any suggestions? I've had a number of attempts at books but given up. Perhaps I expect too much. I probably need to start at coming to grips with the limitations.

NVidea GEForce Graphics Firmware Update - Beware

That's very true. Sales in gaming are huge. AFAIK, workstation GPUs may be more suited to what we do but these tend to be expensive, possibly because of lower volumes.

NVidea GEForce Graphics Firmware Update - Beware

Likewise! Building it yourself, you get what you want un-compromised. It's not that hard. It's basically techy Lego but fewer parts. I wouldn't want to try building a laptop though.

    The nightmare of culling

My first cull is on import. Anything that is obviously unusably blurred in the import dialogue box is not marked for import. Thereafter I use the "Make second copy to:" feature to make a 2nd copy in a particular folder. This then somewhat addresses Cletus' issue of being able to easily...

Lightroom taking forever to do a backup - sometimes hours...

Wow, 12TB and only 2TB left, that's huge. Way out of my league. My data drive is just a 1TB NVMe with only 250GB used including about 12,000 images. I've got nothing more except a long shot. Check if the laptop is reporting the correct size of the HDD. If not, it could be a formatting issue...

Lightroom taking forever to do a backup - sometimes hours...

More possibilities that, I think, have not been mentioned: 1. Are all your drivers up to date particularly for the external drive? 2. If your external drive is a spinning drive, does it need defragmenting? 3. Maybe your external drive is on the way out. Try diagnostics. 4. Check the...

    Storage, backup and OneDrive

Cloud storage is good but it's just another storage option. You need to know what you are getting. You put your IP into the hands of a private company with the promise of security for a fee. Tech companies go bankrupt every day. Promises go poof. Your IP falls into the hands of the receiver...

I think Cleetus has it. You need to look at it from outside the Adobe box.

    Storage, backup and OneDrive

I was in the same situation. You are dead right. OneDrive should not be viewed as just another dive to store stuff, particularly backups. It operates as an "interactive" cloud storge giving the security and capacity of the cloud while saving local storage. If you have your image files on C...

Presentations while OS away from the cloud

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. It looks like a goer. Good point about the syncing. I'll make sure to have it all turned off.

Presentations while OS away from the cloud

Using multiple computers for travel comes up regularly. Sorry to bring it up again but what I'm after is simple on the face of it but I don't think has been covered. The solutions usually involve the use of external drives and the cloud. I don't want to take an external drive and there'll be...

    Keywording limitations

Good to know I haven't reached a limit. Yes, I occasionally move images to another app then back again. That could be upsetting the apple cart. I'll follow that up. I have LrC synced to a degree with LR on a laptop and on a phone but use them for presentation only. Frankly, I don't like the...

    Keywording limitations

I have a catalogue of about 11,000 images. I use nested keywording extensively, for example, for people, I might have then located by Place>Country>State>Town>Street>Number, named under People>Family>Surname>First name, then by Event>Birthday party etc. I've recently noticed that some low...

    Keywords

Those with a scientific background (engineering in my case), that have dealt with database systems, would find nested keywords a natural fit. I couldn't imagine using anything else for what I do. However, as I understand it, professional photography is about clients and photo shoots. I could...

    Cropping to specific dimensions

What is the simplest way top crop an image to a specific dimension? For example, how would one crop to exactly half the height and width? I mean, it would be nice to have a crop ruler or somewhere to specify crop percentages. We have that for export and printing but AFAIK not for cropping.

    Develop module Lens Corrections

I should have anticipated that question. I didn't check. At a guess, it likely was the same lens but without the TC. I get what you are saying. The camera is making decisions based on the gear configuration. I'll do a bit of testing.

LR Use of AI and thus the GPU

You are right. I've seen a report 13th gen gives only a 25% improvement over 12th gen. However, it's already out. I hope I won't need an upgrade for some time yet. 15th gen sounds good ;) Adobe was once proud of LrC not needing a GPU but lately it has been talking up GPUs. The writing is on...

    Develop module Lens Corrections

These are three differing versions of the Lens Corrections panels that appear for various images all shot with the same camera. They are all processed in LrC in my usual way as each image requires.
