Protocol for working with an art collection.

Thank you Phil. Many are Kodachrome, but that was my primary motivation for scanning the slides.

Protocol for working with an art collection.

Hi Friends, I have a family slide collection that I have invested considerable time and energy into scanning and, more recently, into learning how to keyword and organize these photos in Lightroom. These slides represent my growing up and are my most valued possession. As I work to keyword...

    Family Photo Keyword Hierarchy

Hi guys, I've taken some time to try and digest all of this. Does anyone have a family hierarchy they would share? I'm looking to try and understand the structure. I've got 7000 plus beauty Kodachrome slides I have scanned and really want to get the keywording started properly. I must admit...

    Family Photo Keyword Hierarchy

Thanks Pollok. I'll read through the site you provided and then do a "semantic cleanse" of the keywords to put what should be in metadata in the respective metadata fields.

    Family Photo Keyword Hierarchy

Hi Tony, Thank you for your thorough explanation. I've mocked up a skeleton keyword list based on my understanding of your comments. Do you mind taking a look toensure I've reflected your points correctly? In particular, is this how you would handle the months/years? (I am able to glean...

    Family Photo Keyword Hierarchy

Hi There, I've completed scanning 7000+ slides of my family and I'm anxious to begin keywording. I've read so much I'm going cross eyed, but I still don't understand what my hierarchy should look like. I've started down the road of a Who, What, Where, When approach, but don't know if this is...

All good, I was curious what the sf-210 was worth these days, so I just looked on Amazon & B&H, but in both cases it says that the product is no longer available. Edit: (When I purchased it I think it was around $300-$400. This was around 5 years ago.) All the best.

Hi There - yes, that is what I was implying. I've been racking my brain trying to come up with every possible keyword before beginning my keywording, but I think it's more about a general approach. I see what you are saying - just enter the keywords as necessary and then build out the...

Hey jmj2001, sounds like you've got a nice process down, but I just wanted to point out that I used a slide feeder in my scanning project. This, accepted upwards of 100 slides and it worked quite well as long as the slides were the same type. (size, material (plastic/cardboard) and thickness)...

Great idea tspear & Ferguson, thank you. The website (HTML/Javascript) option is awesome. Everything would live on the key then. Really simple and self contained. I'm definitely going to explore this.

My thought was offline and any time enough changes had been made, in the source of record - LR, export the .JPGs again and provide them on a USB key. One of the benefits of offline being that the photos could be viewed in situations where there is no internet connectivity.

Offline. It's worked well in the testing I have done so far. I was pleased when I was able to search using Picasa on the photographs that I had added keyword metadata to using Lightroom. And agreed on the user friendly point. I was not aware the Library module could be used without aquiring...

    Audio Annotation?

Good idea - only catch is with a "fluid" or "dynamic" slideshow based on metadata keyword searches is going to fall apart. I really wish that the audio could be "linked" with the photo such that it would play during a slideshow. I've got to do some playing, but maybe this is a capability of...

Hi There - I had thought of using Picasa because I could then share the photo collection with my family who don't have Lightroom and who need a simpler alternative.

Hi Phil, I used the following setup: -Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 -Nikon SF210 slide feeder which could take upwards of 100 slides at a time. As long as all the slides where the same width/size the feeder worked beautifully. There is a little "gate" that you manually adjust for the width of...

Oh, sorry - yes, thankfully, I have finished the scanning and am now onto the good stuff in Lightroom and enjoying the gorgeous 75MG 4000 DPI Kodachrome slides on my screen. I scanned the 7000 slides and put them in labelled hockey card boxes. These labels correspond with the physical folder...

    New Workflow under development

I can echo the recommendation on SSD. I'm running Lightroom on an SSD with my images on alternate, regular SATA drives and the performance is amazing. Before this, I was experiencing lag and it was a terrible experience. Worth the investment x 100. I went with a Samsung 256GB 840 PRO SSD...
