What fields does LRC compare to see if metadata is in conflict?

At some point, I wound up with almost 1,400 metadata (MD) conflicts in my 22k+ images. I did just upgrade to V10....but I don't know if that was a cause As far as I recall, I've always made metadata changes in LR - not in the original file. So, I have no idea how the conflicts arose. And...

    workflow challenge

Anyone know of android picture taking apps that support voice commands for setting image capture size? In museums I shoot RAW but when I then use the pixel for shots that don't need many pixels....it's a pain to tap to change and then !remember! to return to RAW.

Califdan, you are a font of great ideas! I had no idea, but would certainly try it. This could help a lot! and even more so when I am keeping the time limit in mind as I walk around and take the pics!

Pretty much what I've been doing. But, your example is for a whole page and I'm just grabbing title and artist, which makes the overhead of snipping, pasting, OCRing, copying and pasting (twice) a bit tedious.

Great minds think alike. That's what I've been doing. It would be nice to store the image of the label in a metadata field for the image. Best alternative would seem to be stacking the 2. Any way to execute a series of steps with a single click? like a macro? Because I always shoot the art...

This answers 1/2 of my problem...frankly, the easier one. But I do appreciate it and will now start using LR CC on my pixel

Phil, Some time ago I looked at DAMs and I would agree that they are expensive and complex. Do you recall any specifics about DAMs for museum collections?

    1. haven't found a reliable way to move images from the pixel to LR on my pc. 2. well, that's why I'm asking for better ideas.

    workflow challenge

I photograph works at museums a lot I am using a pixel 3 and the default camera app or a Nikon DSLR. I upload to photos.google.com (using an app on the phone or a card reader for the Nikon) I then download images to my windows 10 PC; and then import to LR classic My folder hierarchy is...

Library module method for adding info to museum photos

Being able to search for title and artist could be an important consideration down the line. And, because I'm not currently using some of the LR default Metadata fields; and because fields like "Title" and "Caption" are searchable fields, I'm thinking I might continue to use those rather than...

Library module method for adding info to museum photos

Louie, Thanks! I missed that completely. [incorrectly assuming that all IPTC fields were in the "EXIF and IPTC" panel. But, I do need to be able to search and am a bit unclear on your comment about text search.... What am I searching? using what? file explorer? or is there a text search...

Library module method for adding info to museum photos

TopOCR (for W10) works quite well. The demo is free but you can't copy the resulting text. So, updating my issue: to those who enter artist, title, and other information in metadata.... which md fields do you use for which? Yes, at some level it doesn't matter as long as I'm consistent, but I...

Library module method for adding info to museum photos

When in museums that allow photography, I take pics of the art and then the info plaque. When updating my library, I use the plaque image to type the info into fields of the image itself. Is there an OCR utility/applicaiton that could take a jpeg and render it to text? I think that could save me...

free alternative for storing photos and managing meta data

Hal, I got a bit distracted looking at open-source DAM tools...many of which have been abandoned. Seems Google Pictures is the default, but I need to make sure it doesn't "help" me and suck in all our personal photos

free alternative for storing photos and managing meta data

"DAM" is the generic term for file management...not just for images but for any file? And, for any tool that used to be free, there are often several new ones that are still free.

free alternative for storing photos and managing meta data

Cletus, at this stage, $100 is still a bit steep. I would imagine, and I could be wrong, that there are quite a few free ones.

free alternative for storing photos and managing meta data

I've been using LR for years and love it. We've got a small business and my partner, who isn't familiar with LR and doesn't need most of the LR features associated with post-processing. But we she does need to keep track of images that we receive and then publish in FB posts, ads, on our...

dealing with reflections on the image of an oil painting

When allowed (and quite a few museums do allow non-flash photography), I've been taking pictures of my favorites works. To varying degrees, almost every shot of an oil painting has some noticeable reflection off the shiny surface. In some cases, where there is a spotlight, the glare is severe...

    labeling photos of museum art

Whenever museums allow photo-taking, I take pictures of my favorites and (here's where the issue comes up) I then take a picture of the label/plaque next to the work. I get back to LR and have a ton of images to manage. A lot of time spent cropping and removing distortion from images of...

is it possible to print in only one section of a "contact sheet"?

Medwyn, sounds like that might work. I don't want them too small, though, so I'd go with a 2x2 on 8x10 paper. But, just to make sure I was clear....the plan is to run a print in a single quadrant, then make adjustments, then run the same piece of paper through and print in another quadrant...

is it possible to print in only one section of a "contact sheet"?

So, does this workaround suggest that what I'd like to do isn't possible in LR without "fooling" the PRINT function?
