Help please with Profile Color adjustments......

Melissa RGB? never heard of her. [emoji16] I spent 50+ yrs in the (photo) business. I disliked LR when it came out and still only use it only on occasion. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

Help please with Profile Color adjustments......

Well I haven't looked at LR in some time and I found the original post somewhat confusing but with Nikon you can set the camera to shoot in Adobe RGB for JPEGs and, also it's my understanding that if you're shooting Raw that's just a place-keeper in the EXIF registry. Then when you're in LR you...

Help please with Profile Color adjustments......

Are you working with Raw or JPEGs? I'd have left the setting on (working with) Adobe RGB color space and done a select all - auto brightness for starters. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

Scanned File Extension is .JPG but File Type is TIF - Smart Collection Consideration

Properly done, and by definition, a file's identity is encoded, not defined by it's extension. However there are some utility programs that will allow you to set the extension to anything you choose regardless of the file indentity. Tiff is almost always a superior choice in scanning anyway...

Cropping by fixed pixel not ratio.

I'm not near a Lightroom computer but what I'd try - set your crop to the ratio you need, save, and check your resolution. Usually we choose Length x Width x 72 to get a precise file size.

    Calibrating Monitor

You need to remember that your eyes adapt to the monitor. I've called that the Shiney Object effect. And then _that_ will look "normal" or better than your print. Have you ever noticed (this just happened to me while we were still able to go out!) a woman who has applied Musk perfume and later...

    Commercial Scanning of Negatives

RReed said to check. Perhaps he meant to see if scanning was done in 16 bit then down converted to 8 for Jpeg. But as jpegs are 8 bits (by the definition I learned) I don't see any advantage to asking the question. If it's a budget constraint, and that a legitimate concern, then Tiff's on media...

    Commercial Scanning of Negatives

I'm not up on all recent specs for Jpegs but I'm doubting they're 16 bit per channel.

    Commercial Scanning of Negatives

I did scanning in a pro lab. The best output is always RGB Tiff, uncompressed. As long as you can handle the size. Even for B&W you'd want RGB scans. That gives you extra data in case somebody graffetti'd on a family album or the colors have faded ala Kodacolor. Also ask about dust reduction...

    CIELAB color space?

I think what your asking about is used by the program internally but expressed as RGB values because the original thinking behind LR was that the user wouldnt want to jump back and forth from one color space to another.

    Dependencies in Adjustment Order

I thought that in Lightroom (most of?) the adjustments are kept in the sidecar file so that the actual image file is as close to out-of-the-camera as possible. Meaning that you can erase the sidecard file and still have the original. And the sidecard, being a compilation of adjustment vectors...

    Commercial Scanning of Negatives

Funny I remember 1440 and 2880, & think I've still got a chassis in the back with a modem still installed (i.e. not so long ago)

    Commercial Scanning of Negatives

I would not get JPEGs. I'd spent the extra for Tiff's. Tiff's have lossless compression jpegs do not. Tiff's have been universal since scanning started. Jpegs are a child of the internet consortium from the 1970s. The jpeg standards were engineered for the 1400 baud modem era. Even considering...

    Dependencies in Adjustment Order

I've never seen that "logical order" mentioned. ? I've always tried to do global luminance corrections first then lens corrections then color and local luminance tweaks and print sharpening last.

    Camera profiles not automatic

I will pick up this discussion tonite from my Desktop. I make too many errors typing on this "smart" phone.

    Camera profiles not automatic

Apples and oranges. The Color Space ie sRGB or Adobe RGB are choosible in the camera set up for Fuji and Nikon (been ages since I tried Canon, so I can't say) Lens and Body are specified in the EXIF data and should be specific to the hardware by the manufacturer unless you have them refreshed or...

    Camera profiles not automatic

You are correct as far as _custom_ profiles are concerned. But I'm talking about the canned profiles.

    Camera profiles not automatic

I'm missing something (no dumb jokes, plz[emoji16]) - Why must I specify a camera/lens profile in Lightroom? If the exif data is there (and it is on 90 percent of my shots) and Lightroom and Camera Raw reads the settings (they do) why do I not find a Preference to "Apply Profile on Import"?

Hello! New to LR with a beginner's question...

Well you don't "upload" your photos into LR (unless you are talking about cloud-storage?). You load them and their location into LR and you are creating (or adding to) a Catalogue as you do that. Collections is one way to organize parts of that catalogue. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using...

    Chucktin

I've spent a lifetime in and around photo and I'm aiming to retire this year. I've worked PS since version 3 and LR, off and on, since it's beginning. I use LR but do not like LR. To me its interface is clumsy, cluttered and non-intuitive. I much prefer working directly in PS, I'm accustomed to...
