I'm with Johan on this. Don't save those derivates, just generate them again when needed.
To answer you question; there is a one situation this option is missing and that is when you are 'in' a smart collection. Could this be the case?

I did not know about this behaviour but LrC does it on my system as you described. When i type in more characters than fit in one line, the field is streched to a second line and so furher.
LrC 11.1 and Mac OS 11.6.2
I'm not familiar with this plugin otherwise i would share my experiences. I think it does not delete the duplicates it finds but only marks them so you can decide yourself what to do with them.

My advise is to take a look at 'The DAM Book Guide to Digitizing Your Photo's'. Lots of tips and best practices.
It is focusing on scanning with camera's but all organization info (preperation, what to scan, meta data, context, naming convention, etc) applies for other scanning methods also.
You can convert all your photo files to DNG if you like. I did it on my early JPG camerafiles also. My main purpose is file management. Lightroom does offer a validation option on DNG files so you can check periodically the consistency of all your photo's so you can prevent them to 'infect' your...
If you keep all the keywords to your RAW files (in Lightroom) and make virtual copies of your different edits you don't need to keep those jpg's. You can make them again when needed from the RAW with all information available in de Lightroom database.
I'm not very familiar with Photoshop and so i'm very glad these options are now available in Lightroom so i don't have to leave it. A timesaver for me.
When the list is to long it wil not show all keywords because of filesystem limits.
So, most of my keywords i have put in a very simple hierachy, only for practical use; A, B, C, .... Z so there are only 26 toplevel keywords. Those i can browse very easy. And for the rest i'm using the search...
You can use Classic without a license. You will lose most edit functionality and the cloud options but the Library stays fully functional. The Quick development does work also.
