    Catalog import gone wrong

Now we're talking! That reveals the parent folder, and right clicking allows me to find the new location. Brilliant, thanks

    Catalog import gone wrong

I'm afraid I do: a different folder for each day. They were originally organised within months, but for some reason I don't understand that higher level of the hierarchy wasn't transferred over. Obviously I did something wrong there. Anyway, thanks for clarifying - I will just have to manually...

    Catalog import gone wrong

The trouble is there is no option to right click on the missing drive. I can only right click on the folders within it, and there are more than a 100 of those. It doesn't seem possible to relink an entire drive to its new location.

    Catalog import gone wrong

It goes to the portable hard drive, greyed out because it is not plugged in to the desktop

    Catalog import gone wrong

But how? The folders aren't in the LR catalog list (on the left side). They're on my hard drive, but they haven't shown up in the LR catalog list. Yet all the photos are visible in the library module. If I try and drag the folders into LR they come across as an entirely new import, without the...

    Catalog import gone wrong

I've tried to import a catalog from my laptop into my master LR catalog on my desktop, but it hasn't gone according to plan. The laptop catalog has imported in to the master catalog fine, but all the photos were on a portable drive, and the catalog on my desktop is still linked to this drive. I...

Photos linked to wrong hard drive

That did it: right clicking on the backup drive AFTER I'd ejected it.

Photos linked to wrong hard drive

Thanks, but my situation isn't quite covered by any of the options in that article. Basically I originally imported the files into the catalog from the wrong location, namely my backup drive rather than my main drive. I can get the photos back in LR easily enough by plugging in the backup drive...

Photos linked to wrong hard drive

I've been trying to sort out the missing photos in my LR6 catalog, and I've discovered that in some cases I've linked the photos to my backup hard drive. In other words the pathway and name is exactly as the main drive, except that the location is the backup drive. Is there an easy way to link...

Problem moving photos from one hard drive to another

Fantastic! So simple, and now sorted. Thank you

Problem moving photos from one hard drive to another

Thanks v much for getting back to me. The folders are listed as missing under the heading of the old drive, but the new drive is only showing the one sub folder I relinked to manually by clicking on the photo and choosing the "locate" option. All the folders are still listed under the old drive...

Problem moving photos from one hard drive to another

Operating System: Mac OS 10.13 Exact Lightroom Version (Help menu > System Info): 6.7 I've shifted my photos from a failing hard drive to a new hard drive. When I try to update the folder location as per this post How do I move only my photos to another hard drive, leaving the catalog where it...

    Lightroom import options not available

Yes, but I want my own folder structure, not LR's, because I want to access my files from other programmes. And also because I have my own folder structure, developed over many years, before LR even existed.

    Lightroom import options not available

OK, I think I get it. I'm trying to import from a folder on a hard drive just after using Image Capture to import the images, but the memory card is still attached, and whilst that's the case, it automatically selects the memory card as the source. So now I see I can choose a source which...

    Lightroom import options not available

Hi all, I've upgraded to version 3, and just discovered that when I import, rather than importing files in their current location (as I used to in LR2), LR is copying them into a LR folder. So I looked at the options to change this, and it's supposed to come under File handling on the import...

Changing the location of my media

OK, thanks for taking the time to explain this. I went for the "add parent folder" option in the end (I couldn't format 2 drives with the same name whilst they were both connected, and didn't fancy having 2 drives with the same name even for a short while). I've switched over to the new drive...

Changing the location of my media

Thanks for the help. The drive only has the photos, not the catalog. There are too many folders to manually update each folder location (basically a different folder for each import). I'm not quite sure what the "add parent folder" is supposed to do. It all looked very scary when I tried it on...

Changing the location of my media

Hi there, I want to migrate my photo collection to a larger hard drive. I've copied the existing hard drive onto the new hard drive, now I want to unmount the old hard drive and select the new hard drive as the source for lightroom. However, my first stab at this led to most of my photos being...

    NAS storage for LR media

That introduces another option: forget the NAS and get a FW drive to store my media on (and perhaps use a NAS only for backup). Trouble is, the iMac only has one FW800 port, so I'll have to run the drive off a hub, and that might slow things down further. Tricky.

    NAS storage for LR media

Hi, thanks for this. Unfortunately the iMac doesn't have a second hard drive (well, it does if you want to spend £600+ on a 256GB SSD, but I don't). So my options are to get mac Pro, which I can stuff full of 4 hard drives (one for the OS, one for media, and the other 2 for backups), or get an...

    NAS storage for LR media

Hello good folks, I'm currently running a fairly old Mac, and looking to get a new iMac. However, if I did this I'd have to store my LR files (ie all my RAW images) externally on a NAS drive, rather than as I do currently on a second hard drive inside my computer. Can anyone tell me if this is...
