Moving to Universal apps on MacOS

Males me wonder why porting ACR or LrC Develop module to Apple Silicon is taking so long. Is the delay more than just porting and also has more redesign work to offer significantly more speed or some new features? Hopefully Adobe can release it by the June WWDC event, if not before.

Moving to Universal apps on MacOS

Details about the problems with plugins and CEP extensions. Plugins need to be updated to run on Apple Silicon. Extensions previously made for CEP need to be ported to UXP. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-for-apple-silicon.html#native-known-issues

Moving to Universal apps on MacOS

I spoke too soon. ACR on my Mini is still an Intel app. I guess Adobe will release both ACR and LRC for as Universal apps at the same time. Hopefully that will be no later than the April product marketing event.

    Lightroom 10.2 update

We now have PS, ACR and Lr (lite) running as Universal apps that can do Apple Silicon, or x86 CPUs. So indeed the missing piece is LrC. Makes you wonder what bug they have found that was not already found in the other apps.

Moving to Universal apps on MacOS

It was nice to see Photoshop and ACR move to native mode Apple Silicon by becoming "Universal" apps. PS was definitely faster on my M1 Mini. With PS, ACR, and Lr all moved to native mode, we are just waiting for the move of LrC to Universal status. Hopefully that will also give a...

    Lightroom 10.2 update

Same on my M1 Mini. Can't wait for the Apple Silicon native mode support. The PS update jumped up the speed of Ps on my Mini.

    CR 13.2

Youtube video from Blake Rudis about this topic:

    CR 13.2

Blake Rudis spend many hours figuring out the execution order in ACR. He had a class on it. As I remember Profile and the Color tools are last and Calibration is first.

    CR 13.2

Fully agreed. But now you can put them in the same order as they will execute....expect for Profile. Profile seems to be fixed at the top of the list, Calibration is executed first as I remember.

    CR 13.2

The point is that you can now arrange the Develop and ACR edit panels to match the order of execution. That order is evidently not the default order in which the edits are listed.

    CR 13.2

I wonder when LrC will be updated to match.

    CR 13.2

This release lets us reorder the edit panel to match the order in which the functions execute. Calibration was listed last....it is the first. Profile was at the top and it is actually one of the last to execute.

Finding a good UltraWide 4K monitor for MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch)

When we moved to M1 minis, the wife and I also moved to Thinktank P32y-10 32" 4k wide-gamut monitors. We have been delighted with them. The also have a TB3 hub so you can chain TB3 devices off of them.

    ProRaw Support

If it is proprietary, one would assume Apple would share that with their friends at Adobe under NDA. Gentlemen Codes seems to have a decent grip on the ProRaw format and possibilities.

    ProRaw Support

The link is from Gentlemen Coders which is led by the former head of Apple's Aperture development team. I think part of the message is that while a ProRaw image inside a DNG file format, it is not a dng file like those from DSLRs or dedicated mirrorless cameras. So the processing tools for...

    The Inevitable is Upon Me...

Suggestion: Limp through on the current MBP until Apple releases a 16" MRP with Apple Silicon ( M1X or M2) this spring. BTW, love my M1 Mini with 16GB and 1TB SSD. Have it chained via TB3 to a 32" wide gamut monitor, to a 8TB G-drive HDD for Time Machine, and a Netstor box with two 2TB SSDs...
