It's Lightroom update time again! New cameras (including the Canon R5/R6), lens profiles and bug fixes, and the ability to disable built-in lens corrections for specific new cameras. Here's the usual list
I just picked one up for my son, and it's doing something I didn't expect -- specifically, I think it is doing dark frame subtraction after long exposures. I'd like to find someone else with one to run a quick test.
The test is simple: In Shutter Priority, set the shutter speed for 10 seconds...
A significant bug has been found in Lightroom 3.4 and Camera Raw 6.4 that can cause corruption of original files.
This only applies if:
Your original files are JPEGs
The JPEGs include large amounts of a specific type of metadata
You write your XMP data back to the originals
The vast majority...
One of the several ways Lightroom can be customized is by editing/creating a file called TranslatedStrings.txt.
What it is
Ordinarily, this file is used by Lightroom to generate text suitable for the chosen language. It's how Lightroom knows that "Library" is "Catálogo" in Spanish, "カタログ"...
Library's Metadata panel has a number of views, and there is a plug-in called Metadata Panels from Matt Dawson that adds a few more. That's by far the easiest way to get more options, but it lacks customization.
You can also make your own, customizing both the list of fields shown, the layout...
I've hand-built some Lens Profiles which correct for the vignetting associated with wide-angle pinhole cameras. They're not available through the Lens Profile Downloader (and probably never will be), but I can mail them to you.

Lightroom 3.3 and Camera Raw 6.3 are now available as Release Candidates on Adobe Labs.
See the announcement on Lightroom Journal.
Edit: The announcement now also introduces the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader.
I just posted a new tip/trick, and can't seem to get it to display the way it displays when I enter it.
Numbered lists show up as bullets, and I can't get a blank line to show up before or after a list.
Trying a blank line between this one and the list below:[list type=decimal]
This is the...
The Develop module's defaults include:
White balance: As Shot
Point Curve: Medium
Color noise reduction: 25
Profile: Adobe Standard
These defaults can be overridden by a Develop Preset applied at Import time, or can be changed...
A common recommendation is to organize your folders by date, but to also give each a name so you can easily find them outside Lightroom. For example, you might have folders called:
2''9-'7-'2 Birthday Party
Doug Young pointed out to me an easy way to do...
One subtle point about syncing white balance: If your source image (the "most selected") is set to As Shot, then the others will also become As Shot.
If you want to sync the actual temp and tint values, the source image needs to be something other than As Shot. Changing it to Custom before...
When I click the "new" button next to a topic, it brings me to the last post I read rather than the first post I haven't read. In other words, it's off by one.
I read upside-down (newest at the top), if that makes a difference.
Since the very early pre-1.0 betas, I've wanted to organize my files by date, but using a hierarchy unavailable in Lightroom -- specifically, YYYY/YYYY-MM/YYYY-MM-DD. In other words, shots from today would go into 2008/2008-10/2008-10-30.
Lightroom offers eight different ways to organize by...
The Lightroom 2.1 release candidate is now available on Adobe Labs. The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers. The Lightroom team would like the...
The left and right arrows just above the filmstrip, on the left side of the screen, are called the Back and Forward buttons. The back button takes you to your previous view, and the forward button goes the other way. As part of the filmstrip, they're visible in every module.
One of our Gurus...
You can choose any history step or snapshot to be the Before view -- just right-click on the history step or snapshot in the left panel, and choose "Copy ... to Before".
By default, the Before view is the Import state.
Lightroom 1.3.1 Available, Now
It's a bugfix release, coming in the next week.
See the announcement on Lightroom Journal:
I'm an avid amateur photographer. Most of my photos these days are of my kids, but I really enjoy the too-rare opportunity to shoot other things when I get the chance.
I switched to digital capture in April 2''6 with a Nikon D2'', and have been using Lightroom since then. Apparently my...
