Another perspective on the upcoming Apple transition to ARM CPUs for new systems

Indeed, Apple needs both Adobe and Microsoft up and running. Reminds me of a Johnny Winter song, "Still Alive and Well". "I'm still alive and well, still alive and well Every now and then I know it's kinda hard to tell But I'm still alive and well Still alive and well, still alive and well...

Another perspective on the upcoming Apple transition to ARM CPUs for new systems

From the XCode 12 page at Apple: "Multiplatform template New multiplatform app templates set up new projects to easily share code among iOS, iPadOS, and macOS using SwiftUI and the new lifecycle APIs. The project structure encourages sharing code across all platforms...

I guess by this time next year....the Apple ecosystem could be a very different world. Exciting times.

Another perspective on the upcoming Apple transition to ARM CPUs for new systems

The new Xcode version creates Universal binaries that can run on Mac or iPad. If the app can run on a 13" Macbook, it should be able to run on an iPad Pro. Ultimately it is up to the maker to make an needed changes for iPad screen sizes and touch screens. Maybe some makers don't want the...

Another perspective on the upcoming Apple transition to ARM CPUs for new systems

In the context of Adobe products, once MacOS 11 and the IOS/IPad versions get released, will that be the way we can FINALLY get LrC and full strength Ps on iPad Pros? If so, does that weaken the case of ever moving to Lr Lite? Could be an interesting fall.

Is there a way to rename files with a specified number of digits in the sequence number?

I have LrC rename my images to (camera body serial number) - (4 digit sequence number). I use the camera body serial number because I usually have two bodies of the same brand and model. By using serial number I don't get duplicated file names on the same shoot day.

I wonder who is next.....Nikon or Fuji. Amazed that Pentax is still around. ;)

This is not going to motivate the sales of the new 150-400mm Pro with built in TC.

LrC & Ps porting to ARM and x86 for Big Sur

That is also the rough timeframe when Hackentoshes will rapidly die off. Several of the Hackentosh wizards have said no problem for the next 5-7 years provided the OpenCore team and others continue to work.. After that....best be planning to do Apple Silicon. ;)

LrC & Ps porting to ARM and x86 for Big Sur

Apple said they are already working with Adobe and Microsoft on the migration. If we get Big Sur and some ARM Macs this fall, I can not believe that all parties would not want Adobe to have LrC and Ps running in native mode on ARM based Macs. So I would guess by end of September the fat...

    Storage & Workflow Performance

Sounds somewhat familiar to my new machine: One Sabrent 2TB Gen 4 SSD on CPU PCIe lanes. This drive is boot, apps, catalog, caches...etc. Two Sabrent 2TB Gen 3 SSDs on chipset PCIe lanes setup as 4TB RAID 0. This volume is the library for documents, pictures,...etc. It also has the catalog...

LrC & Ps porting to ARM and x86 for Big Sur

I sure hope Adobe is porting LrC and Ps to both ARM and x86 on Big Sur. One app version for both platforms would be great. Apple said they were working with Adobe, but no details. Lets hope for the best for the fall releases.

    Need New Computer

Beside me is my pile X570 Aorus Master motherboard, an AMD 5700 GPU, 32GB of memory, a Sabrent 4.0 2TB SSD, and Corsair power supply. I was waiting for the new case, one of the Dune Pro units, to arrive before I purchased a Ryzen 3900. I should have had the case by now; however, the virus...

    SSD or Flash Drive

My iMac has a 512 SSD which is not too small. So I put a 2TB in a small TB3 enclosure, made it bootable and it is what my iMac uses for boot/OS/apps/caches. Via TB3, it is fast. On the sam TB3 bus I setup a Nestor enclosure with two 2TB SSDs in a RAID 0 set which gives fast 4TB for data...

    Olympus OM-D E-M1 III support

Oly is shipping the bodies. I fired up mine this evening. The good news is that Lr Classic and PS can import and edit the standard raw files. I have not yet tried either the 50MP handheld high res raw file or a 80MP tripod high res file. So it is possible a dot release may be needed...

    External SSD & Catalog location

The SSD in my 2017 iMac is 512 and too small for all boot/OS/apps along with catalogs and caches. I did not want to do surgery to open iMac and replace the SSD. So I put this together on a TB3 port: 2TB SSD in an enclosure that has boot/OS/apps, catalogs, caches...etc. Nestor enclosure with...

Preserving Lightroom adjustments after Photoshop editing

small, medium, large structure/texture object contrast

There are many 3rd party tools that will let you adjust the contrast on "small, medium, or large" objects. Does anyone know a way in Ps to do likewise without the use of a 3rd party tool? Blend-if would do a good job if were talking about separation by luminance or color ranges. But...

    Evolving storage hardware

Did the migration of the wife's data to the SSDs. She is very happy with faster performance working with the catalog. By the time we fill the 4TB RAID 0 sets, hopefully 4TB NVMe SSDs will be available.
